The Senior Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, monthly close activities, cash management, expense administration, and process improvement initiatives. This role will serve as a key business partner across Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, and Operations to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and scalable processes. The ideal candidate is a detail oriented, hands-on accountant with strong operational accounting experience in a public company or life sciences environment who thrives in a fast-paced, growing organization. This is a hybrid role with a minimum in-office work of once per week.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including processing cash transactions such as internal transfer requests and weekly AP payment runs and other general accounting activities.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Perform bank reconciliations for operating, payroll, and investment accounts.
  • Manage the prepaid expense and fixed asset module
  • Monitor cash activity and support weekly cash forecasting.
  • Create and maintain Chart of Accounts, departments, and projects in NetSuite
  • Coordinate and perform the annual fixed asset inventory count
  • Own the month-end and quarter-end close process for cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, lease accounting, other assets and other accrued liabilities.
  • Prepare and record journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Maintain prepaid expense schedules and record monthly amortization entries.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliation of the fixed asset subledger.
  • Administer lease accounting in accordance with ASC 842, including monthly lease entries, amortization schedules, and related balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze accruals for certain operating expenses and other liabilities, ensuring completeness and accuracy of recorded obligations.
  • Perform balance sheet flux analysis and resolve unusual variances.
  • Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
  • Coordinate with business partners to ensure timely receipt of information required for the close process.
  • Support quarterly reviews, annual audits, and SOX compliance activities related to assigned accounts.

Requirements

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.

Experience: 

  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in publicly traded companies of biotechnology or lifesciences industry.
  • Strong experience with monthly close, reconciliations, cash management, and operational accounting.
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance and external audits.
  • Big 4 experience a plus. 

Technical Skills 

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control concepts.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
  • Experience with NetSuite, Coupa, FloQast, or similar financial systems preferred.

  • Physical Requirements - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Working Conditions - The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (as in typical office or administrative work).

Base salary compensation range: $91,000 - $106,000
