This position works out of our Costa Rica – Alajuela location in the  EP Division.  In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

As the Buyer IV, you will be responsible to insure materials, services, and supplies used in the Facility are procured at competitive pricing and that quality/quantities are appropriate. This may include obtaining price quotes, specifications and other information required for purchasing decisions. May also include supplier performance tracking and reporting. Locates, recommends and supports implementation of alternative supply in line with requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares PO’s per requirements of MRP/requisitions, STO’s and monitors delivery of product against PO’s and STO’s. Negotiate ETAs as needed.
  • Arrange for vendor corrective action and work with SQE and supplier to improve quality.
  • Plan and schedule deliveries to optimize inventories in support of production schedules, work with suppliers to maintain supplies to minimize shortages of supplies.
  • Identify and approve suppliers and establish purchasing protocol and procedures to ensure purchases meet quality and design specifications and are cost competitive.  Work with the QA department to establish supplier audit procedures and track their performance.
  • Manage the entire purchasing record keeping process including PO generation and verification of invoices against PO’s.  Establish procedures for and manage the return of damaged goods, replacement items, or credit arrangements.  Arranges for vendor corrective action and works with supplier to improve quality.
  • Sourcing/quoting requirements for goods and services required to support the division objectives.                   
  • Materials filing and administrative support.
  • Maintain and update Supplier Data base (ASL) as required.
  • Recommends pricing strategies to achieve department operating goals.
  • Materials support for new R&D projects.
  • Maintain inventory levels based on forecast.
  • Works with inventory management/warehouse management to resolve issues.
  • Work with the Engineering department to establish new material design specifications and select appropriate suppliers.
  • Lead special projects as requested to reduce cost, increase efficiency, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, industrial Engineering or equivalent experience (required).
  • 4+ years of experience in a materials / procurement environment.  
  • Advanced Statistical data analysis and report writing skill required.
  • Understanding of MRP, purchasing, and production principles.
  • Able to identify and implement cost savings opportunities and implement plans to realize savings.
  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
  • Advance Commands of English / Required
  • Basic Portuguese level / Preferred

  • Experience in the medical manufacturing field desirable.
  • ERP experience is a plus (SAP).
  • Basic project management skills desirable.
  • APICS or other Planning/Procurement related certification is a plus.
