The primary function of the Logistics Specialist is to take responsibility and perform the day-to-day operational functions of international exporting, and domestic shipment moves for the ADD organization. The position will require significant interaction with logistics, purchasing, operations, and US Customs & Compliance.
- This position will be responsible for the execution on an operational level for appointed carriers for international air and ocean, domestic and international small package, domestic heavy weight, and truckload shipments on an inbound and outbound basis.
- Responsible for ensuring shipments go out in a timely manner, tracking and tracing, analyzing, and in some cases implementing logistics programs and information systems which result in reducing overall corporate logistics costs while maintaining or improving service in line with divisional goals.
- Communicates daily or have their team interact daily with transportation service providers of all modes, and Abbott suppliers to ensure that shipments are properly tracked and traced, claims are filed, proper paperwork is generated, and delivery at origin and destinations is met.
- Generate the proper and required international and domestic paperwork necessary for outbound shipment moves and exception management on delayed shipments as well as responsible for pre-alerting on all applicable shipments.
- Schedule the appropriate providers to come in for pickups.
- Responsible for tracking and tracing products from origin to destination.
- Responsible for all proper AES filing on applicable shipments.
- Ensuring proper Dangerous Goods paperwork accompanies all applicable shipments.
- Recommend projects which will positively impact divisional and corporate results.
- Export record keeping to comply with Abbott and US governmental organizations policies.
- Provide stewardship of the supply chain/logistics process to ensure the preparation and execution of any related systems, legal agreements, or supplier contracts through Legal and Corporate Purchasing are completed and no gaps exist.
- Ensure all documentation and training necessary to execute the project plan are complete and meet divisional and corporate quality standards.
- Responsible for following up on international and domestic customer complaints on shipments that may be over-shipped, miss shipped, or short-shipped.
- Assist in Due Diligence activities to provide logistics and planning expertise in the decision-making process.
- Ensure Claims are filed on shipments were transportation service provider failed resulting in loss of money or product for Abbott.
- Generating reports that show transportation costs on specific projects or moves.
- Responsible for international shipments from order drop till the order delivers to ADD’s customers.
- Must be on call to handle emergency shipments after hours and on weekends.
- There are a variety of information systems for managing freight, distribution, and customer service portion of the business that do not have common platforms, language, or reporting capabilities.
- Delivering on the tactical aspects of the global logistics distribution strategic goals. Be self-directed to achieve the departmental objectives. Minimal supervision should be required. Have a high degree of freedom to achieve these objectives.
- The incumbent's judgment, technical skills, reasoning and experience will have a significant impact on Abbott's profitability stakeholders to ensure quick responses and satisfactory outcomes.
Requirements

- 4-6 years of related work experience, preferably in logistics or supply chain management.
- Must have dangerous goods certification or be willing to become hazmat certified.
