Training Manager
Quick Summary
Training Strategy Ownership and Franchise Contribution: Own the development and execution of a comprehensive Training & Education strategy aligned with the business strategy and mid- to long-term roadmap of the Structural Heart/TAVI franchise. Beyond program administration and execution, lead strategic education initiatives that directly contribute to accelerated market adoption, successful launches of new indications and next-generation products, and improved patient and clinical outcomes.
Team Management and Capability Development: Lead and manage the Training team, including Trainers and Education Specialists, with responsibility for team development, engagement, and building organizational capabilities that enable team members to demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise and educational effectiveness.
APAC and Global Leadership and Influence: Drive programs that reflect Japan market needs and clinical evidence while partnering closely with APAC and Global Training functions and leadership teams. Represent Japan perspectives and best practices across APAC and Global forums and influence regional and global education strategies and next-generation curriculum development.
Strategic HCP Engagement: Build strategic partnerships with KOLs, key medical societies, and other stakeholders, and lead HCP education initiatives that promote treatment standardization and the safe and effective adoption of procedures.
Compliance and Quality: Ensure strict adherence to Abbott Quality System requirements, applicable laws and regulations, and relevant ethical and industry compliance guidelines.
Responsibilities
~2 min read1. Strategic Leadership & Franchise Alignment
Develop and oversee annual and mid- to long-term integrated Training & Education strategies, encompassing both internal capability development and external HCP education, in close alignment with the franchise business strategy.
Design and execute strategic education roadmaps aligned with the different phases of new product launches, indication expansions, and clinical trials to drive timely market adoption and the establishment of safe and effective procedural practices.
Define and measure ROI and key performance indicators for education programs, continuously evolve curricula based on insights and outcomes, and drive meaningful business impact.
2. APAC & Global Impact
Represent Japan in APAC and Global Training committees and leadership meetings, contributing beyond the localization of global strategies by bringing Japan-specific insights and needs into regional and global strategy development.
Lead and support cross-border Training & Education projects and joint initiatives across APAC, contributing to capability advancement and the standardization of best practices across the region.
3. People Management & Capability Building
Set objectives, manage performance, provide coaching, and support career development for Trainers and Education Specialists to build an empowered, high-performing team.
Establish and oversee standards and governance for field certification processes, ensuring rigorous, consistent, and fair assessment.
Lead systematic reskilling and upskilling initiatives to ensure the team maintains current expertise in clinical evidence, imaging technologies, product knowledge, and instructional capabilities.
4. HCP Education & External Engagement
Partner with KOLs and leading physicians to advance core curricula, simulation-based training, and proctor development programs that address advanced clinical needs.
Support the development of referral networks and education in echocardiography and other imaging modalities to promote earlier diagnosis and expand access to treatment.
Plan and oversee educational programs at congresses, symposia, and other scientific meetings to strengthen the franchise's educational and scientific presence.
5. Operations & Governance
Oversee the annual Training & Education budget, capital investments in training equipment such as simulators, and the implementation and management of learning platforms, including LMS and digital learning tools.
Regularly analyze quality assurance and safety-related information, including PER data, and rapidly implement CAPA-related and preventive training initiatives to optimize procedural outcomes.

• Clinical & Technical Expertise: Ability to quickly understand and analyze complex procedures, anatomy, and clinical data and translate this knowledge into practical and effective education curricula.
• Agility & Change Management: An innovative mindset and the ability to embrace change in a dynamic market environment by proactively adopting new learning technologies and methodologies, including VR/simulation and digital learning.
• Travel: Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for business, including congresses, site visits, and global meetings, approximately 30–40% of working time.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or higher. A degree in science, engineering, nursing, clinical engineering, another healthcare-related discipline, or business administration
• 7+ years of professional experience in the medical device industry, including experience in clinical support, marketing, medical affairs, Training & Education, or related functions.
• Demonstrated experience leading the strategy, design, and execution of Training & Education programs.
• 2–3+ years of experience in people management, including direct management and development of team members, or demonstrated experience leading large-scale cross-functional projects.
• Business-level or higher English proficiency, with the ability to effectively engage in discussions, negotiations, strategic recommendations, and presentations with APAC and Global stakeholders.
Direct clinical and/or business experience in Interventional Cardiology and Structural Heart, including TAVI/SHD.
Advanced knowledge of imaging modalities such as echocardiography, CT, and fluoroscopy.
Experience leading global and/or regional projects within a matrix organization, particularly in a multinational environment.
