Our client is a growing technology company based in Union City, CA. They specialize in optical connectivity solutions for AI and hyperscale data center environments. We are currently seeking a Senior Buyer to join our team in our Union City, CA., office. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in maximizing sales and margin goals for the company by competitively pricing components for cable assembly bill of materials. This includes sourcing competitively priced products that are available in time to meet production needs, reviewing new and repeat sales orders for acceptable gross margins and delivery needs, purchasing products for quick turn orders and reviewing bill of materials for any obvious part master errors.
 
The ideal candidate will bring direct experience purchasing fiber optic components, fiber assemblies, optical connectivity products, or closely related electronic or networking hardware. Candidates without fiber or highly related industry experience will not be considered.
Responsibilities:
• Source and procure fiber optic components, cable assemblies, and related materials to support production requirements
• Negotiate pricing, lead times, and supplier agreements to maximize margin and ensure supply continuity
• Review bills of materials (BOMs) for cost optimization, component availability, and part accuracy
• Manage supplier relationships, monitor supplier performance, and resolve delivery or quality issues
• Support demand planning, inventory management, and production scheduling activities
• Analyze component shortages, market conditions, and supply risks while developing mitigation plans
• Partner cross-functionally with operations, engineering, sales, and planning teams to support customer delivery commitments
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to procurement, planning, and inventory optimization
• Maintain accurate purchasing, forecasting, and reporting data within ERP/MRP systems
 
Qualifications:
• Strong experience in purchasing, procurement, or commodity buying within the fiber optics, optical connectivity, networking hardware, or related electronics manufacturing industry
• Direct experience sourcing fiber optic components is strongly preferred and considered essential for success in this role
• Knowledge of BOM structures, inventory control, supply planning, and supplier management
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Experience working in fast-paced manufacturing or production environments
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and advanced Excel skills
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent industry experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, Supply Chain Management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally with vendors/customers when English is their second language
