Participates in both formal and informal education sessions with Coding, CDI, and other clinical staff. Educates on the importance of documentation and necessary verbiage to ensure optimal reimbursement, adherence to coding guidelines, and complete documentation. Evaluates Coding/CDI discrepancies concurrently and retrospectively, collaborating with Coding and CDI staff to resolve issues and ensure compliant, accurate, and optimal reimbursement. Assists in identifying performance indicators and developing monitoring strategies, data collection methods, and reporting methodologies. Utilizes process improvement skills to optimize processes as a continuous improvement cycle. Follows industry coding and documentation guidelines to maintain system-wide coding consistency and ensure compliance with all relevant government and regulatory agencies. Collaborates with other departments to address coding needs, resolve coding errors, and address coding-related questions/concerns. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned, with the ability to deliver oral and written presentations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Applies knowledge of clinical practice, coding guidelines and regularity requirements (IPPS, CMS, OIG) to support compliance coding practices
Performs RAC and Commercial Post Bill Audit rebuttals.
Ability to interpret clinical documentation and its impact on coding and DRG assignment.
Ability to identify coding and documentation risks.
Reviews complex inpatient cases to ensure accurate translation of clinical documentation.
Supports pre-bill High-risk audits activities.
Performs second-level reviews of post-coded accounts
Associate's of Nursing graduate of school of nursing [Required]
Bachelor's in a field such as nursing, management, business [Required]
3+ as an rn in an acute clinical setting [Required]
5+ of inpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital [Required]
Previous CDI experience [Preferred]
Registered Nurse (RN) [Required]
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) [Preferred]
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) [Preferred]
Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) [Preferred]
Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) [Preferred]
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) [Preferred]
