We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to support month-end close, prepare accurate financial statements, and maintain balance sheet reconciliations and internal controls. This role will perform transactional accounting across AP/AR/fixed assets, assist with budgeting and forecasts, coordinate audit and tax support, and identify process improvements while mentoring junior staff. The ideal candidate has strong GAAP knowledge, advanced Excel and ERP experience, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead month-end close activities: prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and payroll accounting as needed.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
- Prepare account analyses and supporting schedules for audits; coordinate with external auditors.
- Ensure timely and compliant tax and regulatory filings (sales/use tax, 1099s, state filings) in coordination with tax resources.
- Document processes, create SOPs, and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Mentor and train junior accounting staff; review their work and provide feedback.
- Participate in ad hoc projects, system implementations, and cross-functional initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
- 3–6 years of progressive public or private accounting experience; experience with multi-entity or consolidated accounting a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and month-end close processes.
- Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, formulas).
- Experience with ERP implementations or accounting systems improvements is advantageous.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and within a team.
Preferred:
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification.
- Experience in [industry—e.g., manufacturing, technology, nonprofit, healthcare].
- Familiarity with SOX compliance and internal control frameworks.
