AIG’s Data, Digital & Cyber Legal team are seeking a highly experienced Assistant General Counsel to support our global insurance business on cybersecurity, data protection, and artificial intelligence matters across the Asia-Pacific region.
This role will act as a trusted advisor to business, technology, and risk stakeholders, supporting strategic initiatives, regulatory compliance, and risk management in a rapidly evolving digital and regulatory landscape. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the organization's approach to data governance, cyber resilience, and responsible AI deployment.
AIG’s Global Legal, Compliance, Regulatory and Government Affairs (GLCR) department is comprised of attorneys and other professionals providing high quality advisory and transactional support with integrity and objectivity across all parts of the organization. Responsibilities
~1 min readAdvise on cybersecurity legal risks, including incident response, ransomware, data breaches, and regulatory notification obligations across APAC jurisdictions
Support development and negotiation of technology and ICT contracts, including cloud, SaaS, outsourcing, and cybersecurity services
Provide legal input into cyber resilience frameworks, including alignment with global regulatory standards (e.g. MAS TRM, APRA CPS 234, HKMA requirements)
Partner with IT Security and Risk teams on third-party risk management and critical vendor assessments
Provide expert advice on data protection laws across APAC (including Singapore PDPA, Hong Kong PDPO, Australia Privacy Act, and emerging regimes)
Support cross-border data transfer strategies, including localisation requirements and intra-group arrangements
Lead or support data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and risk assessments for high-risk processing activities
Advise on customer, employee, and marketing data use, ensuring alignment with applicable legal bases and consent requirements
Support engagement with regulators and internal audit functions
Advise on legal and regulatory issues relating to AI deployment, including governance, accountability, transparency, and bias mitigation
Support development of responsible AI frameworks, policies, and internal guidance
Conduct legal risk assessments for AI-enabled tools, including underwriting, claims automation, and internal productivity tools
Monitor and advise on emerging AI regulations and guidance across APAC and globally
Provide legal support for digital transformation initiatives, including cloud adoption and data-driven business models
Draft and negotiate complex agreements involving data processing, licensing, and technology services
Partner with business leaders to deliver practical, risk-based legal advice aligned with commercial objectives
Collaborate closely with global legal, compliance, risk, and IT teams
Support the development and implementation of global policies and standards, with regional adaptation where required
Provide training and awareness on cyber, privacy, and AI risks to internal stakeholders
Manage external counsel where necessary
Qualified lawyer with at least 8 years’ experience in-house or private practice experience in technology, data privacy, and cybersecurity.
Experience within financial services, information technology or insurance is strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of APAC data protection regimes, cybersecurity regulatory frameworks and emerging artificial intelligence governance and regulatory landscape.
Understanding of financial services-specific information security requirements.
Proven experience advising senior stakeholders across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
Experience of working in a large fast paced organisation during times of significant change and transformation.
Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice in Singapore.
Working proficiency in Mandarin and English.
