Engineering Manager, Quality Platform

The Quality Platform team is reimagining how software is built, tested, and shipped at scale. We sit at the intersection of Infrastructure, Developer Experience, and Applied AI, building the systems that enable thousands of engineers across Airbnb to ship high-quality software with speed and total confidence. We don’t just find bugs — we build the infrastructure that prevents them.

As a cornerstone of Airbnb’s Engineering Hub in Brazil, this team plays a key role in expanding our global platform capabilities while building a high-impact local engineering presence. You will join at a defining moment, helping to shape both the technical direction of the platform and the culture of the Brazil hub.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the vision and execution of Airbnb’s Full-Cycle Testing Platform.Your mission is to move beyond traditional testing silos by building a comprehensive suite of tools that support the entire development lifecycle—from "Shift-Left" early validation and unit testing to high-scale, distributed End-to-End (E2E) automation.

You will be a technical leader and a people leader, serving as a force multiplier for engineering teams across Airbnb’s global ecosystem. You will drive the transition to an AI-native quality model, ensuring that quality is intrinsic to every step of the developer journey.

• Lead a High-Impact Team: Build and grow a world-class team of engineers. Foster a culture of Engineering Craft, ownership, and operational excellence.
• Drive Full-Cycle Platform Strategy: Define the roadmap for a unified quality platform that integrates Shift-Left methodologies with robust E2E automation, ensuring high-fidelity signals at every stage.
• Transform Quality with AI: Lead the adoption of AI-native approaches, leveraging LLMs for autonomous test discovery, predictive failure analysis, and self-healing E2E automation.
• Champion "Quality by Design": Influence how large-scale systems are built across Airbnb, ensuring that testability, modularity, and scalability are fundamental parts of our global architecture.
• Scale the Brazil Hub: Partner with the Brazil Site Lead and global leaders to establish operational rhythms, mentor talent, and build the Airbnb engineering brand in the region.

• Strategic Leadership: Review technical designs and partner with tech leads to ensure our platform provides early feedback to developers while maintaining comprehensive E2E coverage.
• People & Culture: Coach and mentor engineers, driving career growth and fostering an inclusive team environment built on trust and belonging.
• Operational Excellence: Identify and resolve systemic bottlenecks in our CI/CD pipelines and testing environments to improve developer velocity and release confidence.
• Cross-Functional Influence: Collaborate with global Infrastructure, Product, and Data leaders to promote full-cycle quality standards and align on shared technical priorities.
• Strategic Sourcing: Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and community-building efforts to scale our presence in the Brazil market.

• Leadership Mastery: 3+ years of engineering management and 7+ years in software engineering, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams.
• Platform & Infrastructure Mindset: Deep experience building or leading infrastructure, developer tooling, or large-scale distributed systems that serve internal engineering customers.
• Full-Cycle Testing Knowledge: A strong understanding of the entire testing pyramid, including unit, integration, and high-scale E2E automation frameworks.
• Strategic Execution: Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and drive complex technical strategies across geographic and organizational boundaries.
• Global Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills in English, with the ability to influence technical roadmaps and stakeholders across the globe. (Portuguese is a plus).
• Technical Pluses: Experience with Mobile Development (iOS/Android) or Applied AI/ML is highly valued but not required.
• Commitment to Craft: A passion for engineering excellence and a curiosity for how AI can redefine the relationship between speed and quality.
