We're on the hunt for a mid-level Product Designer who's hands-on, AI-curious, and wired for shipping. You'll join a cross-functional team to elevate the customer experience across our product, owning problem spaces from start to finish. Some days that means building the solution yourself to move fast and learn. Other days it means crafting considered designs for engineers to build when the work is more complex.
We move quickly, so this role suits someone who's resourceful inside real constraints, treats prototypes as the fastest way to learn, and has the curiosity to use AI in both the product we ship and the way they work. You'll think holistically about the product (not just the design), form views on what we're shipping and why, and bring them to the table.
You'll have a support network of product designers, product managers, your design manager and engineers to help you grow in your craft and your career, delivering work you're genuinely proud of.

Responsibilities

Own problem spaces end-to-end. Coordinate with PMs, engineers and product marketing to define the work, then carry it from research through to shipped solutions.

Bring a product mindset. Care about what we're shipping and why, not just how it looks, and form views on roadmap, scope, success metrics and trade-offs.

Build, ship, learn. Get something tangible in front of real users early, whether a rough prototype or a thin slice of the live product, and let what you learn drive the next iteration.

Discover creative solutions inside real constraints. Time, scope, resourcing and tech debt are part of the job, so find creative paths to deliver high-quality work at pace.

Look for AI opportunities in our product and your own work. Spot ways AI can help our users in their daily lives, and adopt AI in your own design process to ship faster and explore more.

Rapidly prototype with AI. Move from flows and wireframes through to high-fidelity designs and AI-built front-end prototypes. No coding background needed, just the curiosity to use AI to get there.

Develop and iterate on interfaces with the right level of craft, balancing pragmatism with quality.

Run user research and validate hypotheses to deeply understand problems and shape what comes next.

Apply and contribute to the Airtasker Design System, raising the bar with your own work and feeding improvements back where it makes sense.

Bring your work to the team for feedback, and use design reviews to land on the right solution and execution.
4-5 years of experience in product design.
A hands-on mindset and a real desire to use AI, both in the product you ship and in how you work day-to-day.
Solid foundation in product design fundamentals, with a portfolio that shows growth in visual interface design.
Effective cross-functional collaboration with PMs, engineers, product marketing and others.
Comfortable shipping high-quality work inside real constraints.
Proficient in Figma and comfortable designing for iOS, Android and responsive web.
Proficient in qualitative research, from discovery and prototyping to testing and iteration.
Cares about outcomes, not just outputs, and forms views on the product, not just the design.
Familiarity with marketplace dynamics is helpful, but not required.
Open to giving and receiving constructive feedback in design reviews.
