Royal Truck & Equipment is looking for a full-time, experienced Installation/Assembly Technician to join our team! Our company has been a leader in the traffic safety industry for more than two decades, with a focus on building crash attenuator trucks (TMA trucks) that are used in highway construction to protect crews in work zones.
The Installation/Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling and installing components on TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuator) trucks, with a focus on advanced assembly and supporting multiple production lines and workstations.
Work duties include installing components on truck chassis (Class 5 & pick-up trucks), performing advanced mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assemblies, interpreting blueprints and BOMs, troubleshooting build issues, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires lifting and climbing as part of the assembly process.
Employee will be expected to interpret work instructions, drawings, and BOMs while meeting safety, quality, and productivity standards. The position serves as a technical resource for complex assemblies and collaborates with engineering and manufacturing teams to support successful builds.
Essential Job Functions
- Install components and perform advanced mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assembly on TMA trucks and related products.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, work instructions, and bills of material (BOMs) to complete assemblies accurately.
- Independently complete complex assemblies and vehicle builds, troubleshooting and resolving assembly issues as needed.
- Support multiple workstations and product lines, including cross-training and assisting with employee training as required.
- Serve as a technical resource for complex builds, repairs, and rework, and collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to resolve build issues.
- Identify and recommend process improvements that support safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Complete required documentation to complete each process.
- Follow all safety, quality, and PPE requirements.
- Perform the lifting, climbing, and physical activities required for the job.
- Provide and maintain basic hand tools required for assembly tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Advanced proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and assembly equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, work instructions, and BOMs.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assembly.
- Ability to troubleshoot assembly issues and solve problems independently.
- Ability to complete complex assemblies with minimal supervision and support multiple workstations as needed.
- Works well in a team environment and communicates effectively with coworkers and support teams.
- Demonstrates a hands-on approach and identifies opportunities for process improvement.
- Understands and follows safety, quality, and productivity standards while meeting production schedules.
- Able to wear required PPE and work overtime, including weekends, as needed.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of vehicle upfitting, assembly, manufacturing, or related experience required.
- Experience interpreting blueprints, BOMs, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical assemblies preferred.
- Experience leading complex assemblies or full equipment builds preferred.
Work Conditions
- Work is performed in a manufacturing and assembly environment.
- Regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and climbing throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and components up to 40 pounds.
- Requires various visual processing (i.e. near, far, depth, color)
- Exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, and varying temperatures typical of a manufacturing facility.
- Ability to work on and around trucks, elevated platforms, and assembly fixtures.
