About the Department
The Information Technology (IT) Department at Ashesi University provides strategic leadership, reliable infrastructure, and user-focused services that enable teaching, learning, research, and administrative excellence. The department manages campus-wide networks, data centers, enterprise applications (including student information and learning management systems), cybersecurity, audiovisual systems, classroom technologies, and IT support services. Working closely with academic and administrative units, the IT team develops and implements technology solutions, ensures data privacy and compliance, and drives digital transformation initiatives to support the university’s mission of educating ethical, entrepreneurial leaders for Africa. About the Role:
The Training and Compliance Officer supports the IT Department in ensuring that all technology operations, staff, and processes comply with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and cybersecurity best practices. The officer also designs, coordinates, and delivers IT-related training programs to enhance staff capacity, promote compliance awareness, and improve digital literacy across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
Compliance Management
- Monitor IT operations and ensure adherence to institutional policies, data protection laws, and cybersecurity regulations (e.g., GDPR, Data Protection Act).
- Develop, implement, and maintain IT compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct periodic compliance audits to identify risks, report gaps, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with software licensing, system usage policies, and access control protocols.
- Collaborate with the IT Director to develop incident response and business continuity plans.
Training and Capacity Building
- Develop and deliver IT training programs for staff, students, and other stakeholders on cybersecurity, digital tools, and compliance awareness.
- Maintain a training calendar covering areas such as data protection, password management, safe internet usage, and institutional IT policies.
- Design user guides, manuals, and e-learning materials to support continuous learning.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, feedback surveys, and participation metrics.
Policy and Documentation
- Assist in drafting and updating IT governance and compliance policies, ensuring they remain current with evolving standards.
- Maintain accurate records of compliance audits, training sessions, and incident reports.
- Provide reports to management highlighting compliance levels, training outcomes, and risk trends.
Risk and Security Awareness
- Work closely with the IT Security Team to identify and mitigate security risks.
- Lead awareness campaigns on cybersecurity and responsible technology usage.
- Support monitoring of user compliance with IT security protocols and recommend improvements.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Assist the IT Director in liaising with regulatory bodies, auditors, and external partners on IT compliance matters.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments to integrate IT compliance into onboarding and continuous learning programs.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Security, or related field.
- Certification or training in IT Governance, Compliance, or Cybersecurity (e.g., ISO 27001, CISA, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent) is an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in IT training, audit, or compliance roles.
- Proven experience developing and facilitating IT-related training programs.
- Strong understanding of data protection laws, cybersecurity principles, and IT governance frameworks.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and documentation abilities.
- Attention to detail and a high level of integrity.
- Ability to design engaging and effective training content.
- Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) is an added advantage.
