Simulator Maintenance Technician

The ATP Simulator Maintenance Technician maintains, repairs, and supports flight simulators, simulator training equipment, and training center IT infrastructure. The Simulator Maintenance Technician performs preventive and corrective maintenance, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues to ensure maximum availability and reliability for flight simulator training events.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Perform pre-session and/or post-session simulator inspections, configuration checks, and readiness verification to ensure simulator availability for scheduled training events.
- →Conduct preventive maintenance per manufacturer and/or company specified schedules.
- →Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on simulator hardware (visual systems, motion platforms if applicable, controls, computers, networks), software (simulation models, instructor operating stations), avionics interfaces, and related subsystems.
- →Maintain, calibrate, and repair avionics lab equipment, including navigation/communication simulators, instrument panels, avionics test benches, and integrated training aids.
- →Support training center IT equipment: servers, networking gear, workstations, VILT virtual training classrooms, learning management systems (LMS), audio/video systems for debriefs, and cybersecurity measures for simulation environments.
- →Document all maintenance actions, discrepancies, and resolutions in accordance with established recordkeeping processes.
- →Assist with FAA evaluations, recurrent qualifications, special emphasis inspections, and company-conducted performance checks; prepare devices and provide technical support during on-site FAA assessments, as assigned.
- →Report and track open maintenance discrepancies; coordinate with the Simulator Maintenance Coordinator on maintenance repairs and status updates.
- →Implement software patches, hardware upgrades, and modifications.
- →Collaborate with the Simulator Maintenance Coordinator, instructors, scheduling, and operations staff to minimize downtime and resolve training-impacting issues promptly.
- →Participate in root cause analysis for recurring faults, safety investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- →Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures in simulator bays and avionics labs.
- →Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- Degree or technical certification in aviation maintenance, avionics, electronics, computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent military experience).
- Prior experience in supporting flight training operations that utilize flight simulators.
- Familiarity with flight simulator manufacturers (e.g., CAE, FlightSafety, Frasca, TRU Simulation).
- Knowledge of flight simulator visual systems (e.g., projectors, collimated displays), motion cueing, or control loading systems.
- Experience supporting regulatory simulator evaluations.
- Background in IT infrastructure supporting flight training.
