Emergency Medicine Physician

All care, including primary care, advanced screening and diagnostics, urgent care, specialty care, 24/7 home visits, and imaging is included in members’ annual fee.

After successfully opening our flagship Institute in New York in 2022 and expanding to South Florida in 2024, we are now bringing the Atria experience to the West Coast with the launch of our Los Angeles Institute in late spring 2026.

The Emergency Medicine Physician in New York delivers urgent care to pediatric and adult members, roughly half in the Institute and half in members' homes. Alongside direct care, you carry clinical oversight for the urgent care advanced care providers and Home Services nurses who deliver the majority of home visit volume. You triage incoming urgent requests, direct the care plan, and take the visit yourself when acuity or scope calls for physician-level care.

You work closely with members' Chief Medical Officers and their care pods, and with specialists across internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, pediatrics, geriatrics, women's health, endocrinology, pulmonology, and performance and movement.

• Evaluate and treat urgent concerns across the age spectrum in the Institute and in members' homes, from minor illness through undifferentiated high-acuity presentations.
• Stabilize members, and refer, admit, or transfer when a higher level of care is appropriate.
• Perform and interpret point-of-care ultrasound as a routine part of the diagnostic evaluation.
• Use our on-site laboratory, imaging center, and diagnostic tools, including mobile spirometry and rapid molecular testing.
• Perform procedures in the Institute and in the home, including laceration repair, incision and drainage, foreign body removal, peripheral IV placement and infusion, wound care, vaccination, and phlebotomy. Blood draws and IV placement are a regular part of the role.
• Document in Athena during the shift, and sign out active issues at the end of each shift.

• Supervise, triage, and direct the care delivered by urgent care advanced care providers and Home Services nurses, including determining which visits require a physician.
• Partner with CMO teams to plan urgent evaluations, and close the loop on results, after-care instructions, and follow-up.
• Monitor Slack channels during shifts to confirm that visits are triaged, staffed, and scheduled with an appropriate arrival window and travel time.
• Coordinate with care coordination, nursing, medical assistants, laboratory, and hospitality teams so that a member's experience holds together across settings.

• Lead and contribute to quality improvement work within urgent care and Home Services, including protocol development, Guru documentation, and review of clinical outcomes.
• Support departmental operations, including input on staffing models, scheduling, supply and medication inventory, and equipment readiness across the sites you cover.
• Teach and precept the clinical support staff on the team, including advanced care providers, nurses, and medical assistants, through skills practice, case review, and new hire orientation.
• Participate in research and collaborate with the Atria Academy of Science & Medicine, including study design, data collection in the urgent care and home setting, and translating Academy expertise into bedside practice.
• Participate in EM faculty meetings and in clinical policy work as relevant.

• Physician coverage of the Institute runs 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., six days a week. Shifts include days and evenings.
• Overnight coverage rotates across the EM team and is carried from home, with in-person response as needed. The total is 40 hours a week in 8 hour shifts.
• Weekend coverage rotates across the EM team.
• The role is based in New York and 90 to 95% of your time is spent here. Standing shifts in Greenwich may be included in your schedule.
• Seasonal coverage in the Hamptons of up to five days a year is required. Travel and housing are covered by Atria.

Compensation: $375,000 - $415,000

• Residency trained and board certified in Emergency Medicine by ABEM or AOBEM.
• Active New York medical license, or eligibility. Connecticut licensure, or willingness to obtain it, if Greenwich shifts are included.
• ACLS and PALS certification.
• Demonstrated proficiency in point-of-care ultrasound, with documented training, credentialing, or a reviewable image portfolio. This is a requirement of the role.
• Comfort and current experience caring for both pediatric and adult members.
• Excellent phlebotomy and IV placement skills.
• Five or more years of emergency department experience preferred.
• Experience with Athena preferred.
• Comfort working across settings, including a member's home, and with the judgment to practice with fewer immediate resources than an emergency department.
