About This Position
This position will be a part of the Substation work group and will report to the Substation Electrician Supervisor. This position will be working in high voltage substations ranging from 69kV - 345kV. This position will safely assist in the installation, modification, maintenance, and repairs of Austin Energy's high voltage substations. This position will be available for scheduled, unscheduled, and call back work. This position will be available for rotational on-call stand by and follow all safety procedures and policies.
Employee hired into this role must complete both a written test and a field‑level assessment, aligned with the experience level at which they were hired, within their six (6)‑month probationary period.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Experience with testing electrical equipment.
- →Experience with Substation equipment maintenance and repair.
- →Experience with Load Tap Changer maintenance and repair.
- →Experience operating Boom Trucks and Cranes up to 30 tons.
- →Experience operating Personal Lift Bucket Trucks up to 65 ft.
- →Skill and experience reading and interpreting substation prints and one-line diagrams.

Employees, in Good Standing, who are candidates within the department/division that the position resides in and who meet the minimum and all of the preferred qualifications (if any) of the position will be included in the initial interview. - Work hours may include evenings, weekends, holidays, on-call assignments, call back, and additional hours outside the regular schedule.

- This position is eligible for on-call and call back pay, as applicable.
- Employees are required to follow all applicable City policies, procedures, and work rules related to on-call and call back assignments.
This position is considered FLSA non-exempt. Non-exempt employees will be compensated for any additional hours worked when such compensation is required by law.
This position requires a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License or the ability to acquire one within 120 days of employment. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin Driver Safety Standards requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Job offer may be contingent on passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test and thereafter, comply with Department of Transportation, Federal Regulations and the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing rules as outlined by the City of Austin Drug and Alcohol Policy for Drivers of Commercial Motor Vehicles.
