Chemical Systems Engineer – Catalysis & Emissions Control #3617651
Quick Summary
Be Part Of A High-Performing Team: Join a research and technology environment focused on advancing cleaner, more efficient engine technologies through applied chemical systems research.
Join a research and technology environment focused on advancing cleaner, more efficient engine technologies through applied chemical systems research. This team supports innovation in chemical reaction systems, catalyst performance, and emissions control solutions, working across multidisciplinary engineering and scientific groups to solve complex technical challenges. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced emissions control research, with a strong focus on catalytic systems, reaction engineering, and laboratory-based experimentation.
This is a 12-month onsite contract opportunity based in Columbus, Indiana, working standard business hours. The role provides hands-on exposure to advanced research and development work involving catalysis, chemical systems testing, reactor setup, and emissions technology development within a collaborative technical team.
- Support research and development activities focused on chemical reaction systems for advanced emissions control technologies.
- Design, execute, and interpret laboratory testing related to catalytic reactors, chemical performance, aging behavior, and catalyst health.
- Contribute to problem resolution for moderately complex components, systems, subsystems, and technical processes.
- Support development and improvement of laboratory processes, test methods, technical documentation, and experimental workflows.
- Analyze test data and translate findings into insights that influence hardware, controls, and computational tool development.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, technicians, and cross-functional stakeholders to advance team goals.
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related scientific discipline required.
- Strong expertise in chemical kinetics, heterogeneous catalysis, and reaction engineering principles.
- Knowledge of engine emissions control technologies, especially Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems.
- Demonstrated research success in an academic, industrial, or government laboratory setting.
- Hands-on experience operating laboratory-scale catalytic reactors; monolithic and/or packed-bed flow reactor experience preferred.
- Experience with reactor design, construction, experimental setup, and lab-scale test system development is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with catalyst characterization techniques such as electron microscopy, BET surface area analysis, TPD, TPR, ICP, and XRD.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical reporting, and scientific documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary research teams.
- Strong communication skills, sound decision-making, and a results-driven work style.
