Ballad is hiring a Transit Van Driver to support our Workforce Employment Readiness and Connections (WERC) program in Red Deer.

The Opportunity
The Transit Van Driver plays an important role in supporting participant success by providing safe, reliable transportation in Red Deer and surrounding areas.
This role is about more than driving. It is about helping create a positive, welcoming, and supportive experience for participants each day. The successful candidate will understand the importance of patience, professionalism, and trauma-informed interactions while working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences..
This role is ideal for a dependable, safety-focused individual who enjoys working with people and contributing to a supportive team environment.
This is a part-time position in our Red Deer Training Centre, working approximately 18.75 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Support
- Safely transport participants between Red Deer and Olds College using Ballad’s transit van.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Ensure participant safety, comfort, and professionalism during transportation.
- Follow all traffic laws, transportation regulations, and Ballad safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized vehicle environment.
- Participate in Ballad’s safety program and contribute to a culture of safety, accountability, and respect.
Participant Support
- Build positive and professional relationships with participants while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Interact with participants using a trauma-informed, respectful, and compassionate approach.
- Help create a welcoming and supportive environment for participants throughout daily transportation activities.
- Communicate participant concerns or observations to the appropriate program staff when needed.
Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Alberta Class 4 Driver’s License required.
- Clean driver’s abstract required.
- Experience transporting passengers in a professional setting is considered an asset.
- Strong commitment to safety and safe driving practices.
- Comfortable working with individuals experiencing barriers to employment or other life challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable, patient, calm, and professional demeanor.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Basic administrative and computer skills are considered an asset.
- Experience in human services, community support, or participant-centered environments is considered an asset.
