North Colorado Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse – Operations Support Specialist to support our two dynamic Medical Surgical units: Surgical Ortho Neuro (SON) and Medical Oncology Telemetry (MOT). This is a salaried, full-time position primarily scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with required presence and rounding on night shifts as operational needs dictate.
This role is central to the success of our nursing teams — serving as the cornerstone of orientation, onboarding, and ongoing education across both Medical Surgical floors. - Surgical Ortho Neuro (SON) — 44-bed unit | Average Daily Census: 38 patients
- Medical Oncology Telemetry (MOT) — 44-bed unit | Average Daily Census: 38 patients
Together, these units represent a high-volume environment requiring a knowledgeable and adaptable support specialist who can move fluidly between both floors.
Responsibilities
~5 min read- →Lead and coordinate new hire orientation and onboarding for nursing staff across both Medical Surgical units
- →Develop, implement, and evaluate unit-based education programs, competency assessments, and skills validations
- →Provide direct patient care and hands-on floor support as needed, serving as a clinical resource and role model
- →Round on night shifts to assess staff needs, support new orientees, and ensure continuity of education and operational standards
- →Collaborate with unit leadership, charge nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to identify and address educational and operational gaps
- →Support the onboarding experience for travel nurses, new graduates, and experienced hires transitioning to the Medical Surgical setting
- →Assist with policy and procedure updates, ensuring staff are educated on changes in a timely manner
- →Participate in quality improvement initiatives and help drive evidence-based practice at the bedside
- →Serve as a clinical mentor and coach to nursing staff at all experience levels
Required:
- →Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Colorado (or compact state eligibility)
- →Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — required
- →Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- →Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- →Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and staff development
Preferred:
- →Medical Surgical nursing experience strongly preferred
- →Experience in nursing education, staff development, or preceptorship
- →Master's degree in Nursing, Education, or related field — a plus
- →Certification in Medical Surgical Nursing (CMSRN) or related specialty
- →Familiarity with oncology, telemetry, orthopedic, or neurology patient populations.

This position is responsible for supporting nurse leadership in the planning, development and execution of facility education for clinicians, supporting the on-boarding and orientation of newly hired registered nurses, career development and effective internal clinical communications. This role performs under the guidance and direction of the chief nursing officer or designee and serves as a liaison between all disciplines by effectively communicating, educating and problem solving. This position proactively supports the quality and continuity of services throughout the healthcare systems and assists in resolution of systems issues and enforces facility/unit/department policy/procedures and standards of care. This position coordinates oversight of quality, risk management, safety and nursing standards and is a role model and resource person for providing quality patient care and maintaining clinical competency within the facility/unit/department; collaborates with Clinical Education to coordinate and support the on-boarding and precepting of newly hired nurses (this includes supporting programs and communication within the facility); develops and coordinates system and facility initiatives to promote clinical career development and lateral nurse pathways and may lead and implement facility clinical initiatives. This position contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, safe care; and actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, such activities may include participating in professional organizations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess knowledge of healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of a Associates degree.
Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
Requires a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Minimal experience, typically gained through 0-2 years relevant experience.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire. Employees working at BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree is nursing preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
