Dump Truck Drivers are essential in driving production on site and in the trench. They are expected to have demonstrated competency to a supervisor, or designated mentor, in all Core Responsibilities of a Dump Truck Driver. 

Your day-to-day will look like: duties will include:

• Operate commercial dump trucks, including trailers to haul materials to and from construction sites.
• Oversee safe loading and unloading of materials, ensuring even distribution and securement.
• Accurately track loads, verify ticket information, and ensure compliance with weight restrictions.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required documentation.
• Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned vehicle.
• Adjust routes based on traffic, road restrictions, and site access conditions.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers and site foremen regarding schedules, material types, and any delays.

You have the following qualifications, technical and interpersonal skills:

Qualifications:

• 3–5 years of experience operating a tandem dump truck and pony trailers in a construction setting.
• Experience and knowledge of the Central and South Vancouver Island roadways.
• Valid Class 1 BC Driver’s License with a clean commercial and personal driver’s abstract.
• Experience driving in tight spaces and urban job sites is an asset.

Technical Skills:

• Knowledge of BC’s commercial transportation regulations and safety requirements.
• Comfortable navigating construction sites and roadways with limited maneuvering space.
• Ability to safely tarp loads and ensure cargo security.
• Proficient with GPS navigation and capable of adjusting to routing changes in real time.
• Report incidents, near misses, or mechanical issues immediately and without hesitation.

Interpersonal Skills:

• Positive attitude and strong commitment to safety.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written).
• Reliable team player with a professional and respectful demeanor.
• Customer-service oriented when interacting with clients or the public.
