We are seeking an experienced MuleSoft Integration Developer with a strong background in healthcare (health plan) environments to join our growing integration engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain API-led connectivity solutions that power critical business and clinical workflows. Experience with Kong Gateway is a valued plus as we expand our API management capabilities.

What You Will Do

  • Design and implement integrations using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (Mule 4), following API-led connectivity best practices (System, Process, Experience APIs)
  • Develop, test, and deploy Mule applications using Anypoint Studio and Anypoint Exchange
  • Build and maintain RAML/OAS API specifications for internal and external consumers
  • Integrate with healthcare systems including claims processing, eligibility verification, enrollment, and provider data management platforms
  • Work with industry-standard healthcare data formats and protocols, including HL7 v2, FHIR R4, EDI X12 (837, 835, 270/271, 278), and NCPDP standards
  • Implement error handling, retry logic, and dead-letter queue patterns to ensure resilient integrations
  • Optimize integration performance, monitor runtime metrics, and troubleshoot production issues
  • Manage and configure APIs through API management tools, including SLA tiers, rate limiting, and security policies
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams on API gateway configuration and management (including Kong Gateway, where applicable)
  • Enforce API security standards including OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, and IP filtering
  • Ensure all integrations adhere to HIPAA Privacy and Security requirements, including secure handling of PHI and audit logging
  • Support compliance with interoperability requirements and healthcare data exchange standards
  • Partner with business and operational teams to translate requirements into integration designs
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including design documents, runbooks, and API catalogs
  • Support code reviews and mentor junior developers to maintain quality standards

You Will Be Successful If

  • You have strong experience designing and implementing API-led integration solutions
  • You are comfortable working with healthcare data standards and complex system integrations
  • You build scalable, secure, and high-performing integrations
  • You proactively troubleshoot and resolve production issues
  • You can effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You thrive in a collaborative, Agile environment
  • You maintain a strong focus on compliance, security, and data integrity

What You Will Bring

  • 4 years of hands-on MuleSoft development experience (Mule 4 preferred)
  • MuleSoft Certified Developer (Level 1) or ability to obtain certification within 6 months
  • Experience working in a healthcare or regulated environment
  • Strong knowledge of REST, SOAP, and messaging protocols (JMS, AMQP, Kafka)
  • Proficiency with DataWeave 2.0 for data transformation
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps)
  • Familiarity with cloud deployment models such as CloudHub, Runtime Fabric, or on-premise runtimes
  • Understanding of HIPAA requirements and secure data handling practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate effectively

Preferred:

  • Experience with Kong Gateway, including configuration and plugin management
  • Advanced MuleSoft certifications (Integration Architect or Platform Architect)
  • Familiarity with FHIR-based APIs and interoperability frameworks
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Anypoint Monitoring, Splunk, or Datadog
  • Exposure to EHR or CRM integrations (e.g., Salesforce Health Cloud, Epic, Cerner)
