UI/UX Designer

BIS Safety Software is a SaaS company on a mission to change how organizations manage safety, learning, and compliance. Since 2006, we've been building innovative software that helps companies simplify training, improve compliance, and keep their people safe. As we continue to grow, we're looking for a thoughtful and curious designer who is passionate about creating intuitive experiences and solving real problems for the people who use our software.

As our UX/UI Designer, you'll help shape and improve the user experience across the BIS Safety Software platform, working on both web and mobile products. You'll collaborate closely with product designers, product managers, developers, and QA to research problems, improve existing workflows, and design thoughtful solutions that make complex software easier to use. You'll also play an important role in building and documenting our growing design system. If you enjoy asking why, digging into problems before jumping to solutions, and turning complex workflows into simple, intuitive experiences, this role is for you.

This is an in-person role based out of our Sherwood Park, AB office.

Own design cases from initial research and problem definition through design, feedback, iteration, and developer handoff

Design intuitive experiences for our web and mobile software using Figma

Evaluate incoming requests, ask the right questions, and identify the underlying user problem before jumping into a solution

Research users, existing product patterns, competitors, and design best practices to inform your decisions

Turn complex software workflows into clear, simple user experiences through wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and production-ready designs

Collaborate with product managers, developers, QA, and other designers to refine solutions and move cases into development

Present your designs clearly, explain the reasoning behind your decisions, and advocate for the best user experience while remaining open to feedback

Help build and maintain our design system by creating reusable components, documenting patterns, and collaborating with our design system developer

Identify opportunities to improve existing experiences, address design debt, and create greater consistency across the platform

Manage and prioritize your own design workload with guidance from the broader product roadmap

Build a strong understanding of our software and its users, with the goal of taking ownership of design needs within specific product modules

Explore AI and emerging design tools to improve how you research, solve problems, and work

Are passionate about design and genuinely curious about the people you’re designing for

Ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and take the time to understand a problem before jumping into a solution

Are comfortable working independently, navigating ambiguity, and moving work forward without needing constant direction

Can clearly explain the thinking behind your designs and adapt how you communicate with different audiences

Advocate confidently for the user and your design decisions while remaining open to feedback and other perspectives

Are collaborative, receptive to feedback, and willing to iterate when a better solution emerges

Know when to push for a better experience and when to balance design ideals with development realities

Take initiative, spot opportunities for improvement, and are willing to pursue good ideas without waiting to be asked

Are excited by new technology, quick to learn new tools, and open to experimenting with AI as part of your design and research process

Thrive in a fast-moving environment where priorities evolve and you’re trusted to manage your own work

Hands-on experience designing software, web applications, mobile apps, or other complex digital products, with a portfolio that demonstrates how you approach problems and turn them into thoughtful user experiences

Strong proficiency in Figma and experience creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and production-ready designs

Experience using research, user needs, and product context to inform your design decisions

Experience presenting your work, explaining the reasoning behind your decisions, and collaborating with developers, product teams, clients, or other stakeholders

Experience with user research, usability testing, or turning research findings into design decisions

Exposure to design systems, component libraries, or documenting reusable UI patterns

Experience designing mobile apps or responsive experiences

A background working with B2B SaaS, enterprise software, dashboards, or other complex digital products

Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Figma AI and an interest in using them to support your design process

A research-oriented background where you’ve gathered information, analyzed it, and used it to solve problems
