Data Product Manager
Develop bol's data into products that power decisions at scale
How do you make our customers happy?
Every product recommendation, every search result, every business decision, and every AI-driven interaction depends on data that is discoverable, trustworthy, and fit for purpose. As a Data Product Manager, you own the lifecycle, vision, and roadmap for data products that power analytics, ML, and AI across the organization. That calls for someone who doesn’t consider data a byproduct of operations, but a product in its own right - with its own customers, quality standards, SLAs, and an ambitious roadmap that propels the data vision. Want to help us evolve from an online marketplace into an AI-powered matchmaker? Build the load-bearing data foundations.
The biggest challenge
Data ownership is notoriously difficult to define and even harder to enforce. Today, our definitions are incongruous, governance is applied inconsistently, and reuse across domains is the exception rather than the rule. You'll need to define clear product boundaries, formalize data contracts, and align stakeholders who each believe their brand of data management should prevail.
What you'll do as Data Product Manager
You'll work within a domain-embedded cross-functional data team as part of bol's new DA&AI operating model. Together with Data Engineers, Data Stewards, Product Analysts, and Data Scientists, you'll own and evolve data products that serve multiple consumers and applications across bol, ranging from analytics teams to ML/AI pipelines and third-party tools. Your role spans strategy, delivery, and governance. Often in the same discussion. While the nature of the role is strategic, maximizing your impact calls for hands-on technical work. Here, BigQuery, dbt, and the Data Product Catalogue linked to bol's ML Ops platform are your tools of choice. Your initial focus? Analytical-layer data products, with future expansion into operational data products, including stock allocation, supplier orders, and employee data. Your responsibilities:
· Define and maintain the long-term vision and roadmap for source and consolidated data products within your domain
· Design data products with clear input ports, processing logic, and output ports, applying Domain-Driven Design for boundaries and ownership
· Implement data contracts that formalize agreements between producers and consumers regarding ownership, SLAs, quality standards, and documentation
· Prioritize features, quality improvements, and tech debt based on value and business needs
· Collaborate with Data Engineers and Scientists to coordinate delivery and evolve products, informed by actual usage and feedback
· Ensure data products meet enterprise quality standards and compliance requirements, working closely with Data Stewards on governance execution
· Monitor product adoption, quality metrics, reliability, and consumer satisfaction - driving continuous improvement through feedback loops
· Act as product ambassador: onboard teams, facilitate self-service access, and represent your data products in cross-domain forums
Why you can make a difference
You bring a ‘degree’ in product management thinking to the world of data. With a solid understanding of data models, pipelines, and platform fundamentals, you translate business needs into actionable data product requirements. You combine strategic vision with hands-on accountability. Important, because this isn't a role where you can set the direction and lean back. You need to constantly and consistently measure value, track adoption, and iterate. All while keeping the stakeholders on board. Your governance instincts ensure compliance without killing velocity, and your stakeholder skills maintain alignment across engineers, analysts, scientists, and business stakeholders who each speak different data dialects.
3 reasons why this is (not) for you
+ Products over projects You view data as something to own, evolve, and improve, not as a deliverable to hand off.
+ Metalinguistic You’re technical enough to write a data contract, and strategic enough to present a convincing roadmap to a Product Director.
+ Chaos tamer You embrace the occasional uncertainty that is inherent to a brand-new role in a brand-new operating model.
- Iteration illiterate You are a firm believer in ‘first time right’ solutions. So much so, that you consider iteration a total waste of time.
-
- Code owner only You prefer owning the code to owning the outcomes.
- Ambiguity anxious You prefer executing a predefined roadmap over shaping the product strategy.
- .
Here's where you'll land
You'll join the Data Product Management & Governance team within bol's Data, Analytics & AI department, reporting to the Head of Data Product Management & Governance. Your team is pivotal to realizing bol's strategic data goal of building a modular architecture with high-quality products that accelerate AI adoption. You'll work across domains — collaborating with Product Directors, Enterprise Architecture, Data Platform, and domain-embedded data teams. With 2,900 colleagues serving 13.7 million customers and 47,000 partners, the data products you own will directly shape how bol learns, recommends, and decides. Do you see that responsibility as an invitation? It is!
