EngineeringAutomation Engineer

Are you ready to transform the way businesses pay and get paid? Bottomline is a global leader in business payments and cash management, with over 35 years of experience and moving more than $16 trillion in payments annually. We're looking for passionate individuals to join our team and help drive impactful results for our customers. If you're dedicated to delighting customers and promoting growth and innovation - we want you on our team!

Bottomline is looking for an Associate Infrastructure Automation Engineer to grow with us in a hybrid work environment!

This is an associate-level opportunity for someone who brings curiosity, sound problem-solving instincts, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly. We do not expect candidates to arrive with experience across our automation platforms. The successful candidate will receive mentoring and hands-on knowledge transfer while building practical engineering and operational skills.

Our senior engineering resources and primary stakeholders are U.S.-based, making close time-zone alignment important for onboarding and collaboration.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without restriction. Visa sponsorship or transfers are not available for this position.

  • Support infrastructure automation platforms and shared engineering services by responding to troubleshooting requests, alerts, on-call incidents.
  • Perform basic Linux administration, including checking storage and system status, accessing and reviewing logs, and running existing scripts.
  • Learn the team's automation tools, development practices, and operational processes through hands-on work assignments, mentoring, and self-directed learning.
  • As experience grows, contribute to automation improvements, platform design, and increasingly complex technical problem solving.
  • Required: Basic Linux administrative skills, such as comfort with the Linux CLI, user and permissions management, managing services, basic networking, and writing bash scripts
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude and a structured, persistent approach to troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability and motivation to learn unfamiliar tools, technologies, and processes.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain findings and document steps taken.
  • A collaborative mindset and comfort working with teammates and internal customers.
  • This role is intended for an associate-level candidate. Experience in infrastructure automation, platform engineering, or infrastructure-as-code is preferred but not required.
  • Education, training, internships, labs, personal projects, or prior technical support experience may all provide relevant preparation.
  • We value learning potential, practical judgment, and troubleshooting ability more than experience with a specific technology stack.

Prior experience with these technologies is helpful but not required. Training and mentoring will be provided based on the needs of the role:

  • Infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, or Chef
  • CI/CD and Git-based workflows using GitLab or GitHub
  • Scripting and programming using shell, Python, or Go
  • Cloud and container platforms such as Kubernetes
  • AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code

This position offers a clear path to grow from foundational operational support into advanced automation engineering. As knowledge and experience develop, the role can take on more complex troubleshooting, automation development, and high-level platform design.
