About the Role

We are seeking a Communications Manager to join Boulder Care's lean, high-impact communications team to deliver strong execution across external and internal programs.

This person will run the day-to-day operation of Boulder's communications function — executing our media relations strategy, managing awards and speaking opportunities, and growing our company's LinkedIn presence to expand brand visibility and credibility. They will also manage key internal communications touchpoints, keeping Boulder's team informed, aligned, and connected to our mission through recurring programs and ad hoc moments.

The Communications Manager will work within a clear strategic direction and is expected to bring sharp execution, operational discipline, and genuine curiosity about the work. Healthcare background is a plus; mission alignment is a must.

Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and industry media; drive proactive pitching with timely, well-angled story ideas
  • Manage inbound press inquiries and coordinate response
  • Track coverage and maintain the Press section of Boulder's website
  • Support announcement communications — drafting, editing, and coordinating press releases and supporting materials
  • Bring market and media context to communications planning, using industry trends and news cycles to sharpen Boulder's angles and timing
  • Maintain Boulder Care's company LinkedIn presence, including publishing cadence and  content development across announcements and milestones, as part of Boulder's broader brand visibility strategy.
  • Manage Boulder's earned speaking calendar — tracking deadlines, owning submissions, and coordinating executive prep and on-the-ground support
  • Maintain an awards calendar; research and identify new recognition opportunities across addiction treatment, healthcare, and innovation
  • Lead award application development from content drafting through submission and follow-up
  • Manage content and coordination for the monthly All Hands meeting — gathering updates, coordinating department presentations, and supporting leadership messaging
  • Draft and manage the monthly COO newsletter and other company-wide communications touchpoints
  • Coordinate with People function and other operational teams to support updates and company-wide announcements
  • Partner with the Associate Director to maintain a communications calendar that reflects key internal and external milestones

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in communications, PR, or media relations
  • Background in an agency or lean in-house team
  • Mission alignment and intellectual curiosity are non-negotiable; healthcare or health tech experience is a plus
  • Operationally excellent. Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams without things slipping and experience building the systems that make that possible.
  • Media-hungry. You follow the news, find the angle, and invest in journalist relationships as an ongoing practice. 
  • Strong writer with range, with ability to shift voice and format across a media pitch, an internal announcement, and a social post. 
  • Strategically curious. You ask the right questions before diving in, flag risks proactively, and know when to push back

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field
  • This is a fully remote role but we are currently only hiring candidates located in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, KY, MA, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, WA, or WV. Applicants must reside and work in one of those states to be considered.
    • Changes to working location require pre-approval from People Operations and are not guaranteed.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
  • Office Requirements: Boulder teammates working with sensitive information must have a dedicated, private workspace with a lockable door and high-speed internet to maintain a secure, distraction-free environment, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
  • Boulder Care employees are free to use our river-front HQ located in Portland, OR whenever they would like.

No travel is expected for this position.

We don’t require college or university degrees. We also don’t give folks priority based on those things. We care about your experience, life story, and demonstrable skills.

This is a full-time remote position expected to work 40 hours between Monday-Friday during standard business hours.

What We Offer

The starting pay range for this position is $80,000-$115,000 annually; base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity grants in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave).
