Responsibilities
~2 min readThe Global Tax team at Braze manages direct and indirect tax compliance, provision, and planning across our US and international footprint to support a high-growth, public SaaS company. Based in Bucharest, Romania, this Senior Tax Analyst will be a key contributor to VAT and US sales & use tax compliance, global income tax provision (ASC 740), and direct tax filings. You will partner closely with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, Billing, and Operations to ensure compliant, scalable tax processes that keep pace with our global expansion.
Responsibilities:
- →Prepare, review, and file timely and accurate indirect tax returns, including US sales and use tax and VAT, including payments, reconciliations, and maintenance of the compliance calendar.
- →Determine taxability for SaaS/software, digital services, and professional services; maintain tax codes and product taxability matrices; support nexus assessments, registrations, and deregistrations in new and existing jurisdictions.
- →Reconcile indirect tax and income tax accounts to the general ledger; perform month-end close activities, prepare journal entries, and resolve variances.
- →Support audits and inquiries from US state/local and tax authorities (ANAF), including data gathering, analysis, and drafting responses.
- →Assist with quarterly and annual global income tax provision under ASC 740, including current and deferred tax calculations, book-to-tax differences, ETR analyses, and financial statement disclosures.
- →Support preparation of direct income tax returns and estimated payments for US federal and state and non-US corporate income taxes in collaboration with external advisors.
- →Maintain and enhance SOX-compliant tax processes and internal controls; document procedures and drive continuous process improvements and automation across provision and compliance.
- →Partner cross-functionally to review contracts, billing flows, and new product/market launches for tax implications; advise on VAT place-of-supply, reverse charge, digital services regimes, and US sales tax exemptions and certificate management.
- →Provide data and analytics for tax forecasting, cash tax planning, balance sheet rollforwards, and operational dashboards; ensure data integrity across ERP and billing systems.
- →Contribute to ad hoc projects, including tax technology enablement (ERP/tax engine integrations), transfer pricing data support, M&A due diligence and integration, and global tax registrations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CECCAR, ADIT, CPA) is a plus.
- 5+ years of progressive corporate tax experience in a multinational environment or Big Four/shared services, with hands-on indirect tax compliance (VAT and US sales & use) and exposure to direct income tax.
- Strong knowledge of VAT rules (e.g., place of supply, reverse charge, OSS/IOSS, invoicing requirements) and practical experience with multi-state US sales & use tax compliance.
- Working knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 740; experience supporting quarterly/annual income tax provision preferred.
- Familiarity with SOX/internal controls and public-company close timelines.
- Proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets and comfort extracting and transforming large datasets from ERP/billing systems; experience with BI/reporting tools and tax engines (e.g., Vertex, Avalara) and tax provision/compliance software is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to translate complex tax concepts for non-tax stakeholders and influence cross-functional decisions.
- Highly organized self-starter who can manage multiple deadlines across time zones and collaborate effectively with internal teams, external advisors, and tax authorities.
- Strong written and verbal English language skills are essential.
