The Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management’s (DPSEM) Program Coordinator provides operational and programmatic support for community engagement and outreach initiatives. This individual plays a key role in coordinating and implementing community-building initiatives among students, staff, and community members that promote a deepening sense of belonging, trust, and connection with the department. In carrying out these responsibilities, this individual works to improve community empowerment, community-police relations, transparency, and accountability. The Coordinator supports the Director of Advocacy, Engagement, and Communications by organizing events and programs, managing outreach and communications, and carrying out day-to-day administrative tasks.

Education and Experience:

  • →Bachelor’s Degree preferred, plus 2- 3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of higher-education or non-profit setting is highly desirable.

Job Competencies:

  • →Strong project management, organizational skills, and event planning experience
  • →Keen attention to detail
  • →Must have the ability to think critically and creatively
  • →Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, collaborate, and connect with people with various backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences.
  • →Strong listening, oral, and written communication skills.
  • →Computer skills/experience in: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Social Media.platforms
  • →Must be flexible and able to adapt in a changing and emergency -service centered environment and able to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • →Understanding and familiarity of issues regarding policing and groups from diverse populations, particularly from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, undocumented, first-generation college, low-income, and international communities
  • →Experience in outreach, marketing, or grassroots/community organizing
  • →Familiarity with programs like Canva, Adobe, Qualtricsor Mailchimp a plus.
  • →Evenings, weekends, and holidays may occasionally be required.
