Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is looking for a Laboratory Information Specialist to join our Laboratory department!
Under general direction of the Manager, the Laboratory Information System Specialist coordinates and performs the development, implementation, maintenance and enhancements of the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and information technology functions.
Major Job Duties & Responsibilities
Develops, implements, maintains and enhances LIS applications
Provides training, consultation and problem-solving assistance
Communicates all LIS changes to the labortory staff
Stays informed regarding changes in software, hardware, and regulatory requirements as they related to the LIS.
Develops and maintains policies and procedures associated with the LIS
Maintains detailed documentation of LIS activities, upgrades, training, problems and their resolution
Acts as a liaison between the laboratory and the IT department
Assist in resolving charge rejections, billing issues and third party reference lab interactions.
Other duties as assigned
Must possess advanced application of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform high volumes keyboard input and operation of manually controlled equipment.
Visual and auditory acuity is required.
Most work will be inside but may be required to go outside to travel to other hospital buildings or facilities.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
Clinical laboratory techniques and generalist procedures.
Clinical laboratory regulatory requirements (CLIA, COLA, CMS, CAP).
Laboratory information systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Effective verbal and written communication with diverse audiences.
Strong organization, attention to detail, and task prioritization.
Problem-solving in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Interpersonal and customer-service skills within a team-based approach.
Ability to follow established workflows, policies, and procedures.
Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Apply critical thinking and sound judgment.
Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Learn and adapt to new systems and software.
Take initiative with minimal supervision.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Educational Requirements
Licensure by the Montana State Board of Clinical Laboratory personnel as a medical laboratory technologist.
Associates Degree in Clinical Laboratory science, or one of the chemical or biological sciences.
Successful licensure by a National Accrediting Agency such as NCA, AAB, or ASCP.
