Reporting to the Development Supervisor – Mining, the Blaster Helper is responsible for assisting the lead blaster with all tasks related to handling, transporting & loading explosives as well as occasionally assisting dewatering and pit utility crews.
Location: Blackwater Mine site
Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

Assist the Blaster with the preparation, loading, and firing of production and development blasts

Transport, handle, and stage explosives and blasting accessories in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures
- →
Prepare blast holes for loading, including cleaning and measuring holes as required
- →
Help establish and maintain blast exclusion zones, signage, and security during blasting activities
- →
Support the safe storage, inventory, and documentation of explosives and blasting materials
- →
Maintain blasting equipment, tools, and vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition
- →
Work closely with Drill Operators, Mine Operations, and other departments to ensure blasting activities are completed safely and efficiently

Follow all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements

Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and ongoing training
- →May be required to maintain a clean-shaven appearance (i.e. no facial hair) to ensure the safe and effective use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with assigned duties
Requirements

- Previous experience in surface mining, construction, or blasting operations is considered an asset
- Knowledge of safe explosive handling practices and mining safety procedures is an asset
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively under the direction of a certified Blaster
- Physically fit and capable of lifting heavy materials and working in a demanding outdoor environment
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work a rotational schedule in a remote camp environment
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions from experienced team members
- High school diploma preferred
- Valid driver's license preferred
Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift
Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
