The Department of Health Sciences at Drexel University invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor whose whose primary responsibility will be teaching research-related courses to undergraduate students. These courses may include research methods, statistics, and/or a newly developed research seminar centered on the candidate's area of expertise and current research interests. A secondary responsibility will be teaching courses in human anatomy and physiology. Successful candidates will be dedicated to teaching with an inclusive philosophy and enthusiastic about establishing a line of scholarship and service that supports academic career growth and the department’s mission of engaging undergraduate students in a range of experiential learning opportunities. A major focus of the position is helping the department achieve its teaching mission. Protected time for research, service, and career development will be provided as appropriate. Candidates who have expertise in content areas associated with major chronic health conditions are of particular interest for the department; these content areas include, but are not limited to: cardiovascular physiology, muscle physiology, aging, and genetics. Candidates who bring a line of scholarship that can enhance the department’s emerging emphasis on creating an undergraduate research experience for all undergraduates are especially encouraged to apply.

About the Department of Health Sciences: This is an exciting time of development within the Department of Health Sciences. In 2022, we moved into a new state-of-the-art building on Drexel’s main campus that also houses the College of Medicine. The Department of Health Sciences administers a large and expanding Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program for students pursuing careers in a variety of healthcare fields, many requiring graduate education. Common fields of study for undergraduates in the department are physician assistant, physical therapy, and exercise science. In-progress department initiatives include expanding the undergraduate research program, growing our new health-focused exercise science major, and participating in the University’s academic transformation initiatives. Opportunities for collaboration exist within the College of Nursing and Health Professions and with researchers in the College of Medicine, College of Engineering, School of Biomedical Engineering, and School of Public Health. Additional opportunities are offered through the many universities, health care centers, and community partnerships in the Philadelphia region.

  • Teaching research-related courses to undergraduate students. These courses may include research methods, statistics, and/or a newly developed research seminar centered on the candidate's area of expertise and current research interests.
  • Teaching courses in human anatomy and physiology.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of a PhD or comparable doctoral degree
  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience teaching in higher education
  • Experience with development of multimedia and integration of technology in an academic setting
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills
  • Commitment to collaborating with instructors across a shared course and department
  • Commitment to teaching, scholarship, service and growth as an academic faculty member
  • Alignment with the goals and direction of the Health Sciences Department
  • Expertise that compliments our current faculty and potential collaborators within the College of Nursing & Health Professions and Drexel University
  • A defined scholarly agenda related to health sciences
  • Experience with mentoring students in undergraduate research
  • Experience teaching in a gross anatomy lab
