The Optometrist will provide full-scope primary optometric care at a healthcare facility. This role will serve as a critical member of the healthcare team, providing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care in compliance with our client’s healthcare standards, and the American Optometric Association (AOA) guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • →Provide full-scope primary optometric care in accordance with AOA clinical guidelines and community standards of care.
  • →Perform detailed patient evaluations, including:
    • →Visual acuity testing (distance, near, and pinhole vision)
    • →Color vision assessments
    • →Contrast sensitivity testing
    • →Refraction (manual, automated, retinoscopy)
    • →Keratometry and lensometry
    • →External and slit lamp examinations
    • →Ocular motility, binocular coordination, and accommodation tests
    • →Funduscopic examinations, applanation tonometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, glare assessment, wave-scan analysis using VISX equipment, and night vision testing.
  • →Diagnose and manage visual and ocular conditions with therapeutic pharmaceutical agents (TPAs) as certified.
  • →Accurately transcribe information into patient medical records, including:
    • →Past ocular history, allergies, and adverse drug reactions
    • →Detailed written assessments, diagnoses, and recommendations
    • →Patient education and follow-up plan with appropriate documentation, signature, and provider stamp.
  • →Utilize three years of extensive refractive surgery experience and/or training from a certified refractive surgery residency.
  • →Conduct detailed refractive surgery evaluations, including analyzing results from topography, pentacam, epithelial mapping, anterior chamber depth, and other diagnostic tests.
  • →Assess candidate suitability for procedures such as LASIK, PRK, Corneal Crosslinking, Implantable Collamer Lens, and Clear Lens Exchange.
  • →Identify and counsel patients on contraindications for refractive surgery.
  • →Collect, organize, and submit outcome data and case report forms for compliance, liaising with the FDA and client  set protocols.
  • →Adhere to strict infection control guidelines and practice universal precautions.
  • →Ensure safe and effective operation of clinical diagnostic equipment and compliance with safety protocols, including emergency procedures and hazardous material handling.
  • →Explain procedures, test results, and treatment options effectively to patients in person and via phone.
  • →Provide accurate documentation of medications, including types, dosage, time administered, and any adverse reactions observed.
  • →Maintain adherence to DHA, Military Treatment Facility (MTF), and federal healthcare compliance protocols.
  • →Complete all mandatory federal and facility-specific training, including tuberculosis screenings, immunizations, respirator fit-testing, and other medical clearances.
  • →Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams of healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care, ensuring optimal outcomes.
  • →Other duties as assigned.

Candidates should demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to adapt to evolving responsibilities as outlined by the client.

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited program.
  • Certification for the use of Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPAs).
  • Active and unrestricted U.S. State licensure to practice optometry.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of extensive refractive surgery experience or completion of a certified refractive surgery residency.
  • Two letters of recommendation from references familiar with the candidate's clinical experience and performance (dated within the last two years).
  • Completion of required medical clearances, including:
    • Current vaccinations: Influenza (annually), Varicella, MMR, TDAP, Hepatitis B series
    • TB screening and respirator fit testing
  • Strong technical expertise in operating diagnostic equipment for testing and analyzing ocular conditions.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic equipment and automated systems, including ADS, Essentris, MHS GENESIS, and Clinical Information System (CIS).
  • Demonstrate superior patient communication and care skills, maintaining professionalism in high-volume, fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze diagnostic testing results with precision.
  • Full color vision and sufficient visual acuity to perform duties.
  • Due to the nature of work at the client’s facility, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

  • Clinical and surgical setting with frequent exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Special attire required, including scrubs, gloves, masks, and eye protection.
  • Requires performing manual procedures, working with sophisticated diagnostic technology, and contributing to a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Services will be provided Monday through Friday between 0700 and 1900 .
  • Shifts will typically be scheduled in 8.5-hour shifts, inclusive of a 30-minute uncompensated lunch break.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Requires sufficient manual dexterity for handling diagnostic and clinical equipment, as well as providing health care services.
  • May involve heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling during routine shifts.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
