Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early Career Process Engineer to join our Water Process Engineering and Infrastructure Service Line in our Pittsburgh, PA,  Atlanta, GA, or Phoenix, AZ office locations. This role will apply academic knowledge and practical experience to real-world consulting projects related to process engineering, water and wastewater treatment (including municipal and industrial), stormwater management and treatment, and groundwater management/treatment for a diverse national private and public sector client base. The position is ideal for an early-career engineer interested in developing strong technical capabilities while learning the business, communication, and project delivery skills needed for a successful consulting career.

• →Support process engineering evaluations for water, wastewater, groundwater, and stormwater treatment systems.
• →Assist with chemical data review, treatment technology screening, and development of engineering recommendations.
• →Support civil and infrastructure design for water and wastewater conveyance, treatment facilities, site layouts, piping systems, and related project components.
• →Perform engineering analyses such as planning studies, engineering studies, hydraulic modeling, process calculations, mass balance evaluations, equipment sizing, and equipment selection.
• →Assist with the preparation of engineering design drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and supporting documentation for water, wastewater, groundwater, and stormwater treatment facilities.
• →Conduct fieldwork associated with design, pilot testing, construction services, system inspections, sampling, monitoring, data collection, and contractor coordination.
• →Analyze engineering and environmental data, including laboratory analytical results, field measurements, treatment performance data, hydraulic information, GIS datasets, and design inputs.
• →Prepare maps, tables, figures, data summaries, design support materials, and visualizations for technical reports and client deliverables.
• →Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, proposals, construction documents, and other written deliverables under the guidance of senior technical staff.
• →Coordinate with project managers, engineers, scientists, contractors, laboratories, vendors, and clients to support project execution and high-quality deliverables.
• →Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while developing consulting, technical writing, problem-solving, project delivery, and client communication skills.
• →Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed. 

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering, water resources engineering, or a closely related discipline. (required)
• Advanced degree in chemical, mechanical, environmental, civil, or water resources engineering with coursework or research related to water/wastewater treatment, process engineering, environmental chemistry, or hydraulics. (preferred)
• Academic, internship, co-op, research, or practical project experience involving treatment systems, process calculations, pilot testing, hydraulic analysis, infrastructure design, or environmental data evaluation. (preferred)
• Engineering Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability and interest to obtain certification. (preferred)

• Academic, internship, co-op, research, or early professional experience in process engineering, water treatment, wastewater treatment, environmental engineering, civil infrastructure, groundwater management, stormwater treatment, or related consulting work. (preferred)
• Foundational understanding of process engineering principles, water and wastewater treatment processes, hydraulics, environmental chemistry, and engineering design fundamentals. (required)
• Experience or coursework involving treatment technologies, equipment sizing, pumps and piping, hydraulic modeling, mass balances, unit processes, physical and chemical treatment, and biological treatment. (preferred)
• Interest in applying engineering principles to water/wastewater (municipal and industrial) treatment, groundwater treatment, stormwater treatment, water reuse, conveyance systems, and facility planning or design. (required)
• Ability to organize, evaluate, and communicate technical data using tools such as Microsoft Excel, GIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, hydraulic modeling software, statistical tools, Python, MATLAB, R, or similar platforms. (preferred)
• Experience preparing or supporting engineering drawings, design calculations, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, reports, proposals, and presentation materials. (preferred)
• Strong technical writing, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with project teams, laboratories, contractors, vendors, regulators, and clients. (required)
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, ask thoughtful technical questions, follow quality procedures, and contribute to high-quality consulting deliverables. (required)
• Willingness to perform fieldwork, including site inspections, sampling, monitoring, pilot testing support, construction observation, equipment checks, and occasional overnight travel. (required)
• Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
