Logistics Specialist (DHQ)

The Logistics Specialist coordinates and manages logistical operations and resources, ensuring the effective use and availability of departmental vehicles, equipment, supplies, and other assets. The position oversees fleet and inventory operations, warehouse and storage areas, supplier and vendor relationships, and distribution, while providing logistical and operational support for street outreach, community events, client services, Corps and other departmental programs and activities. The Specialist also supports divisional emergency preparedness and response efforts, training initiatives, and works with Corps, donors, vendors, and other partners to ensure departmental resources are effectively coordinated and available to meet program and emergency needs. The position is supervised by the Emergency Services Deputy Director.

• →Manage departmental vehicles, equipment, inventory, warehouse/storage areas, and related tracking systems, including maintenance, inspections, and required documentation
• →Coordinate the acquisition, organization, transportation, and distribution of supplies and equipment for departmental and Corps programs and activities
• →Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, donors, and other resource partners to support departmental needs
• →Provide logistical support for street outreach, community events, client services, distributions, trainings, and other departmental activities
• →Work with Case Managers to support client needs, including transportation and the pickup, delivery, and distribution of essential items and other assistance
• →Coordinate with the Administrative & Volunteer Support Specialist to engage and support volunteers for outreach, distributions, disaster response, and other activities
• →Support development of Corps-based preparedness resources and planning
• →Provide logistical support for divisional emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities, including the deployment and tracking of supplies and equipment
• →Maintain all relevant training certifications to include, but not limited to, first aid, CPR, opioid overdose reversal/prevention, AED, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), signs of human trafficking etc.
• →Maintain all required Opioid Overdose Prevention Program (OOPP) training and certifications, ensure accurate and timely reporting of distributed supplies, maintain necessary inventory, and perform other OOPP-related responsibilities necessary for program operation and compliance with NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and Salvation Army policy
• →Provide overdose prevention education and distribute naloxone and other approved harm reduction resources in accordance with NYC DOHMH requirements and Salvation Army policy, including participation in community events and targeted distribution within required ZIP codes
• →With approval, deploy national/international emergencies in support of response efforts
• →Perform other related duties as assigned. 

• College degree in a relevant field or 3–5 years of experience in logistics, operations, inventory/fleet management, emergency services, humanitarian assistance, or a related field
• Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate complex logistical operations and distributions involving multiple resources, locations, schedules, and stakeholders
• Strong independent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond to changing operational needs
• Experience managing inventory, equipment, vehicles, and warehouse/storage operations, including sourcing, distribution, maintenance, and related tracking systems
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, donors, Corps, and other internal and external partners
• Familiarity with emergency preparedness, disaster response and recovery, human services, and/or anti-human trafficking preferred
• Instructor certification in First Aid, CPR/AED, Mental Health First Aid, ServSafe, and other relevant courses, or demonstrated progress toward those certifications
• OOPP/naloxone training and certification or willingness to obtain required certifications
• Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate cargo vans, box trucks, forklift, and other Emergency Services vehicles; ability to obtain and maintain all required licenses, certifications, and documentation for assigned vehicles
• Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment, ability to work evenings and weekends, and respond to emergency and disaster operations as needed
• Bi/multilingual preferred
• General knowledge of The Salvation Army preferred
