The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences (SHS) at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for this full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position, with expertise in speech-language pathology. The major emphasis area of the position will be research. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent and extramurally funded program of research that both sustains and elevates the department’s regional and national reputation. The successful candidate also will be expected to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

 

This is a tenure-track, nine-month academic year position, at the USU main campus in Logan, Utah, anticipated to begin in August 2027. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled. The position is not eligible for telework.

Responsibilities

  • →Lead an extramurally funded research program focused on speech-language pathology, which includes publishing research in top-tier scientific outlets
  • →Teach undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned
  • →Mentor graduate students, including chairing and serving on graduate student committees
  • →Provide service to the department and institution, as well as provide national, state, and local service to the profession

Requirements

  • PhD (or equivalent degree) in speech-language pathology, speech/language science, or related field (e.g., neuroscience, psychology, linguistics). ABD candidates will be considered (degree completion required by start date)
  • Evidence of potential to establish a robust program of research
  • Evidence of potential to obtain extramural funding for research program
  • A record of refereed journal publications that aligns with the assistant professor level
  • Demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in alignment with speech-language pathology and related fields
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach graduate child speech/language courses, but expertise in other areas will be considered.
  • Interdisciplinary research aims that support college initiatives related to health, technology, and wellness
  • Post-doctoral training in speech-language pathology or a preferred field
  • Success in obtaining extramural funding through grants or contracts
  • Evidence of excellence in mentoring student researchers

    The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences (SHS) includes the divisions of audiology, deaf education, and speech-language pathology. SHS offers undergraduate and graduate programs, including PhD opportunities in the neuroscience and disability disciplines doctoral programs within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. SHS provides real-world learning opportunities for students in the Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence (Hearing and Balance clinic; Speech & Language clinic, Pediatric Audiology, and Cochlear Implant clinics) and in our early education program, Sound Beginnings, for deaf and hard of hearing children.
