The Project Coordinator Senior assists the Director of Research and Training in supporting the growth of the Center for Employment and Inclusion, housed within Utah State University's Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice. The incumbent helps expand and implement employment training and research programs that improve employment outcomes for people with disabilities, designs curriculum grounded in the current evidence base, and builds and sustains relationships with state agencies, employers, and other employment stakeholders.

 

The position reports to the Director of Research and Training and supervises, trains, and directs full-time benefited employees who provide employment training and technical assistance to state and national partners. Supervision includes setting performance expectations, conducting evaluations, and coaching staff to deliver evidence-based, competency-based training and technical assistance.

 

This position is eligible for hybrid telework in the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

  • →Program leadership and implementation
    • →Assists the Director in planning, coordinating, and implementing employment training and research programs for people with disabilities.
    • →Makes administrative and procedural decisions that shape day-to-day program operations, and contributes to operational decisions affecting the Center.
  • →Staff supervision and technical assistance
    • →Supervises, trains, and evaluates staff who provide employment training and technical assistance to state and national groups, and directs hourly employees, graduate students, and volunteers.
    • →Ensures staff deliver evidence-based, competency-based training and technical assistance aligned with recognized professional competencies for employment services.
    • →Monitors the quality, reach, and outcomes of training and technical assistance, and provides ongoing coaching and feedback to staff.
  • →Curriculum and training design
    • →Designs, develops, and revises training curricula, instructional materials, and technical assistance tools based on the current research and evidence base in disability employment.
    • →Keeps current with emerging research and best practices, and integrates them into Center programs.
    • →Leads or delivers seminars, workshops, and trainings for state and national audiences.
  • →Stakeholder engagement
    • →Serves as a principal liaison to state agencies, employers, service providers, advocacy organizations, and other employment stakeholders.
    • →Represents the Center at meetings, conferences, and state and national initiatives, and builds partnerships that extend the Center's reach and impact.
    • →Facilitates meetings and special projects with faculty, staff, partners, and external constituencies.
  • →Research, data, and evaluation
    • →Collects, analyzes, and reports data on program activities and outcomes; prepares scheduled and special reports; and maintains program records and statistical information.
    • →Supports research and evaluation activities and helps translate findings into practice.
  • →Fiscal management, grants, and communications
    • →Monitors and administers program revenues and expenses in accordance with grant and University requirements.
    • →Writes, or assists with writing, grants and funding proposals; may participate in other fundraising activities.
    • →Writes, edits, and coordinates training manuals, educational materials, newsletters, brochures, and other program publications; may maintain and create content for the program website.
    • →Ensures completion of administrative support tasks, including program correspondence, purchasing documents, and reports.
    • →Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, special education, public administration, or a related field, plus two years of directly related work experience or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience designing and delivering training or technical assistance to state agencies, service providers, or other professional audiences.
  • Experience with grant writing and grant management.
  • Familiarity with professional competency frameworks for employment services (for example, ACRE competencies) and with customized and supported employment.
  • Doctoral degree (PhD) in a related field.
  • Expert knowledge of supported employment and customized employment, including evidence-based practices in employment training and technical assistance.
  • Expert knowledge of research, information gathering, and evaluation methods, and the ability to translate research into practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to design curriculum and instructional materials based on adult learning principles and the current evidence base.
  • Proven ability to supervise, train, and lead staff, including coaching staff toward evidence-based, competency-based practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with state agencies (including vocational rehabilitation, Medicaid, and education agencies), employers, service providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of grant development, implementation, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Ability to make sound administrative and procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data and generate reports.
  • Ability to plan and organize meetings, trainings, and special events, and to facilitate workshops and presentations for varied audiences.
  • Expert knowledge of communication principles and marketing techniques, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Skilled in organizing resources, establishing priorities, and maintaining program records.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion where work is varied and may be undefined.

    Frequent statewide travel, including travel to urban, rural, and frontier communities, is required; occasional overnight travel is expected. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel independently throughout the state are required. The employee may experience variable schedules, weather, road conditions, and accessibility considerations associated with field work. Employees may be required to lift and move up to 30 pounds and retrieve and transport training materials or equipment.     The Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice (IDRPP) is Utah’s federally designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). The IDRPP opened its doors in 1972 and was the first UCEDD program in the U.S. to focus on the educational and social needs of children and adults with disabilities.     The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs.
