Position Summary: The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care to youth residing in residential congregate care settings. This includes conducting psychiatric evaluations, diagnosing mental health conditions, developing individualized treatment plans, and prescribing and managing psychotropic medications. The Psychiatrist works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams including therapists, social workers, nurses, educators, and direct care staff to ensure youth receive trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and culturally competent care. The role requires a strong understanding of the complexities of child and adolescent mental health, especially within the context of trauma, family disruption, and systems involvement. The Psychiatrist also provides consultation, crisis support, and ongoing medication management to promote stability, emotional wellness, and long-term recovery for youth in care.

Responsibilities

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency program required
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) required
  • Valid and unrestricted New York State medical license (or eligibility to obtain one prior to start date) required
  • Current DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances required
  • Certification in trauma-informed or evidence-based treatment models (e.g., TF-CBT, DBT) preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders, trauma-informed care, and psychopharmacology.
  • Must be comfortable treating children ages 7-18 and collaborating with families.
  • Experience working with youth impacted by trauma, foster care, juvenile justice, or behavioral health systems is highly desirable.
  • Driver's License and ability to maintain insurability throughout employment
