• Baking Soda Packaging Mechanic for shift

Maintains, times and repairs high speed packaging equipment while maximizing production requirements that meets/exceeds manufacturing specifications.

• →Multi-skilled with strong mechanical aptitude and abilities and a solid electrical background.  Must have a basic proficiency in welding and machining (lathe, mill, drill press, band saw).
• →Must be able to read mechanical and electrical blueprints.
• →Troubleshoots, adjusts, times, and makes all repairs to packaging department equipment – Pack lines, palletizer, stretch wrappers, and all raw materials conveying equipment – with minimal downtime.
• →Work with regulated products to meet GFSI and FDA standards.
• →Understands and adheres to all plant food safety programs and basic HACCP principles     
• →Preventive maintenance on all packaging equipment.
• →Fabricates stock parts for the packaging equipment as needed.
• →Repairs/rebuilds motors, brakes, pumps etc. when necessary.
• →Tracks electrical problems on all equipment including the PLC’s.
• →Performs machine change overs and sets-up all baking soda packaging lines to ensure vertical startups for increased production
• →Assist in meeting high quality standards and production quotas in the Packaging Department.

• →Subject to overtime as needed to meet production demands

• →Work any shift during the week as well as weekends in Baking Soda Department.
• →Must be self-starting/can work without direction.
• →Use safe operating procedures and judgment including Lock Out Tag Procedures specified by Old Fort Facility.
• →Elevates any conflicts in the production schedule, performance, or quality issues to the appropriate parties
• →Maintains a clean and safe operating area by following 5S program to include, sweeping the floor, dumping the trash, and removing extraneous items
• →Support other department functions as necessary
• →Performs other tasks as assigned

• Minimum of a High School Diploma / GED is required
• Minimum two years Mechanical Experience

MAJOR PHYSICAL TASKS:    
Pushing carts    Carts are stacked with cardboard packaging boxes and can weigh up to 100 pounds
Lifting motors    Loading and unloading motors weighing no more than 40 lbs. Lifting is done only for a short period.
Loading cartons and containers    Lifting bundles of boxes to hip height and placing them onto feed hopper.
Lifting boxes to the glue tote    Refilling the hot glue machine reservoir with pellets. Requires climbing one flight of stairs and lifting the box to chest height.
Maintenance to machinery with tools    Maintaining packaging machines with hand tools and basic repairs.
Climbing stairs while carrying.    One flight. Accessing glue tote.
