JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant City Administrator supports the City Administrator in managing and coordinating the daily operations of the City. The position oversees assigned functions, assists in implementing City Council directives, and ensures consistency in service delivery across multiple departments. This role provides professional, technical, and administrative support to the City Administrator, City Council, City staff, partner agencies, and the public. The Assistant City Administrator may be assigned oversight of specific projects, programs, or operational areas as determined by the City Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required. A master's degree is preferred.

Five years of progressively responsible experience in municipal government, administration, planning, operations, or a related field; at least three years of supervisory or management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of municipal organization, administration, budgeting, and service delivery.
  • Knowledge of applicable state statutes, local ordinances, and regulatory requirements affecting municipal operations.
  • Skills in conflict resolution, negotiation, and collaborative problem‑solving.
  • Skills in preparing and presenting clear and concise reports, analyses, and presentations.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical documents, financial information, and operational data.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, elected officials, community groups, partner agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast‑paced environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary and requires the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The following physical abilities are required: mental acuity, repetitive motions, speaking, hearing, visual acuity, standing, walking, and balancing.
