Engineering Manager- Funding

Overview

As a member of the Engineering leadership team at Conservice, you will lead, mentor, grow and build a highly-effective Software Engineering team within an Agile environment. Our Funding team builds the systems that request funds from our clients, allocate them accurately across each client's rules, and reconcile every dollar so the utility and vendor bills we manage get paid on time. You'll lead that team as we build the next generation of our funding platform with AI-first engineering practices.

• Lead, hire, and develop a team of talented engineers who report directly to you, including regular one-on-ones, career growth conversations, and performance management.
• Your primary goal will be to drive your team to turn concepts into reality and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, scalable, innovative software to Conservice's utility management platform.
• Partner with your Product Owner to own your team's sprint – planning, backlog refinement, standups, and retrospectives.
• Stay hands-on with the technology, guiding architecture and design decisions alongside your engineers.
• Help shape how Conservice builds software with AI. Our teams develop with agentic tools like Claude Code, and our Engineering Managers help define the practices that make them effective.
• Balance supporting our established funding systems with building new capabilities, keeping your team focused and clear on priorities.
• Work closely with Product Management, Finance partners, and other technical leaders to stay ahead of the curve with our products and architecture.
• Champion engineering craftsmanship, testing, and best practices so our software not only works as advertised, but keeps working accurately at scale.
• Build a culture of ownership and reliability around financial accuracy, including thoughtful monitoring, clear runbooks, and learning from every incident.
• Rally your team to make and keep commitments to customers, the business, and themselves.
• Lead discussions with your team about the emerging tools, technologies and processes that may impact how our organization grows and evolves.
• Participate in interviews to find the next great engineer or leader at Conservice, convincing them that Conservice has the best software jobs on the planet.
• Celebrate your team's wins, and make time for learning, research, and team building.

What You'll Bring

• Recent experience managing a software engineering team with direct reports, including hiring, coaching, and growing engineers.
• Hands-on experience with technologies in the Conservice environment (.NET and C#, microservices, Azure, Azure Service Bus, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Docker, AI and data pipelines).
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools with a team, and curiosity about how they are changing the way software gets built.
• An advanced knowledge of software engineering practices, craftsmanship, metrics, quality and testing procedures, process creation and enablement.
• Experience owning Agile ceremonies and continuously improving how your team works.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical work in a way that resonates with engineers, business partners, customers, and executives alike.
• The ability to adapt to changing situations in stride, build buy-in, and keep your team motivated and performing through change.
• A track record of leading measurable improvements in how software teams execute, and the passion to do it again.
• A habit of anticipating problems and moving quickly to solve them.
• Stories about how you helped a team achieve more than they thought possible.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering (or equivalent) experience.
• 7+ years in software engineering with 2+ years of recent experience leading software engineering teams with direct reports.
• Experience with modern .NET and C#, microservices, and public cloud platforms such as Azure.
• Working knowledge of relational databases, including SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in a professional setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with payments, billing, ledgers, ACH, or financial reconciliation systems.
• Experience with SQL Server stored procedures and batch processing.
• Experience leading a team through a system modernization or migration.
