Duties: The Utility Worker IV Leads works on crew to dig up and replace drainage lines and to complete assignments in Duties: The Utility Worker IV serves as a lead worker and working crew leader within the Street & Bridge Division. This position performs and leads crews in skilled and semi-skilled manual labor related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, storm sewers, culverts, parks, rights-of-way, and related public infrastructure. Leads and participates in the construction, maintenance, repair, and replacement of streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, storm sewers, culverts, ditches, rights-of-way, parks, and related public infrastructure. Performs excavation, trenching, shoring, backfilling, pipe installation, and related utility work manually or with mechanical assistance; aligns and adjusts pipes and culverts to ensure proper grade and flow. Assists with asphalt and concrete repairs and other roadway maintenance activities. Installs, maintains, and removes traffic control devices and barricades in accordance with applicable traffic control and work-zone safety standards. Operates and assists with storm drainage camera inspection systems to identify blockages, damage, and structural deficiencies. Safely operates department vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, backhoes, small track excavators, trenchers, front-end loaders, air compressors, water pumps, gas-powered saws, air hammers, and other assigned machinery. Uses hand and power tools and performs routine equipment inspections; reports maintenance needs and equipment deficiencies. Uses City radios and other communication equipment appropriately and effectively. Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with established safety procedures and applicable occupational safety requirements. Evaluates job-site conditions, identifies hazards, determines appropriate safety precautions, and implements advanced traffic control measures to protect employees and the public. Leads by example in promoting safe work practices and maintaining a safe work environment. Exercises sound judgment and works independently when required; evaluates site conditions and determines appropriate work methods, materials, and equipment. Directs and coordinates daily crew activities to ensure assignments are completed safely, efficiently, and timely. Provides guidance, training, and direction to crew members and promotes teamwork, accountability, and effective communication. Responds to emergency situations, including flooding, storm damage, infrastructure failures, and other urgent operational needs. Assists other Public Works divisions as needed to support departmental operations. Must have and maintain, without interruption, required certifications and licenses. Works assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policies. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High school diploma/GED and one (1) to three (3) years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a good driving record. Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time. Ability to work effectively and safely outdoors in all weather conditions. PREFERRED: specified timeframe. Experience operating excavation and heavy equipment. Experience with storm sewer camera inspection systems. Additional training in traffic control, trench safety, or public works operations.

    • From 26 years of service and up – six weeks of vacation per year.
