We are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Research Associate to join the Genomics Core team in Johnston, IA, focusing on RNA sequencing. This laboratory-based role requires both independent and collaborative work, as well as the ability to develop, follow, and troubleshoot protocols to ensure timely, high-quality results. The successful candidate will utilize state-of-the-art molecular biology and NGS techniques to support multiple Biotech divisions and accurately document experimental data in database systems. This position involves coordinating with various laboratories to assist Corteva scientists in crop improvement through trait identification, regulatory toxicology studies, and more. You will act as a integral piece of the RNA sequencing pipeline, with opportunities to lead independently and operate as part of a larger team initiative.
What You’ll Do:
• Preparation of RNA sequencing libraries for both short-read and long-read sequencing
• Cross train in RNA isolations and assist where needed
• Manage a dynamic workload appropriately and effectively to ensure that project timelines are met and communicate project status to leadership.
•Operate and maintain molecular laboratory equipment
• Ensure that all materials necessary for production are prepared properly, safely and on time
• Record pertinent information in proprietary and standard software applications
• Take part in new technology development or process improvement studies
What Skills You Need:
* Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field. Preferred candidates would have a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience, or equivalent levels of relevant education and experience.
* Experience and working knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques such PCR, gel electrophoresis, and nucleic acid characterization are required.
* Strong skills and understanding of pipetting techniques and standards is required. Experience with multi-channel pipetting and plate-format processing is desired
* Experience and fundamental knowledge of NGS sequencing applications a plus
* Experience with RNA isolations, RNA storage and handling standards is desired
* Keen attention to detail and ability to stay vigilant and focused while performing repetitive tasks
* Ability to function both independently and as a respectful team member
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
* Ability to manage time amongst competing priorities, and seek guidance from leadership when needed
* Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills are required
* Experience with problem solving and ability to recognize issues as they arise. Experience with process improvement is a plus
* Experience with computer systems and standard software programs, especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
* Self-motivated and goal oriented
