Responsibilities

- →Case Management: Own day-to-day management for approximately 120 active criminal matters, supporting three attorneys efficiently and effectively.
- →Court Communication: Ensure timely filings, track deadlines, and minimize resets by maintaining proactive communication with courts.
- →Motion Drafting: Draft and format motions and pleadings, sourcing precedents and using analytical skills to support case strategy.
- →Legal Research: Utilize LexisNexis and WestLaw to support attorneys in case development and trial preparation.
- →Client Communication: Maintain clear and consistent communication, translating complex legal issues into actionable information for clients.
- →Documentation: Update case management systems within 24 hours, ensuring all case activities are logged accurately.
- →Trial Preparation: Coordinate trial support including assembly of notebooks, exhibit preparation, and jury selection logistics.
- →Collaboration: Direct the firm's Investigator and Discovery Clerk, ensuring evidence collection and discovery processes are thorough.
- →Work Location & Schedule: This is a 100% onsite role based in College Station, TX (with one work-from-home day per month). Typical hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility as needed for court/trial demands.
- Paralegal Experience: 2-6+ years, with a preference for criminal defense experience.
- Research Skills: Proficient in LexisNexis and WestLaw; strong legal research and writing skills.
- Case Management: Ability to manage high caseload volumes with efficiency and organizational skills.
- Client Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage clients under pressure.
- Judgment: High judgment under pressure and capable of independent decision-making.
- Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using Clio, Slack, Office 365, and research tools like Westlaw and LexisNexis; able to leverage modern tools (including AI) to move cases faster without sacrificing quality.
- Process Improvement: Systems-oriented with a drive to streamline and modernize workflows.
- Integrity: Ethical integrity with zero tolerance for compliance lapses.
- High-Impact Role: Directly influence case outcomes and client futures in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
