  • Conservation and Maintenance Manager (Clerk Grade 9 – 10)
  • Temporary (12 Months) full-time (35 hours per week) opportunity
  • Jenolan Caves - hybrid working supported
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $129,465 to $142,666 + super

Our team at Jenolan Caves is currently seeking to appoint a Conservation and Maintenance manager to undertake the following:

  • Provides expert advice on managing existing assets and building new ones, aligned to state-wide priorities.
  • Supports the Jenolan Caves Reserve Trust (JCRT) with dedicated asset services.
  • Develops and implements asset management capability using best-practice principles and systems.
  • Applies consistent asset and project management processes across JCRT operations.
  • Leads maintenance planning, infrastructure projects, and strategic asset priorities.
  • Manages major contracts, risk planning, and lifecycle maintenance to ensure asset safety and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Conservation and Heritage Management: Manage a multidisciplinary team with a balanced focus on routine maintenance, environmental conservation, and heritage management.
  • Asset Management & Protection: Oversee comprehensive asset protection strategies and champion the development and implementation of a robust Asset Management Framework.
  • Critical Infrastructure & Compliance: Supervise water treatment operations and drinking water management systems to ensure strict compliance and safety standards.
  • Risk & Project Governance: Lead risk management practices, project scoping, and project sponsorship to ensure initiatives are aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support operational and project delivery.

You would be required to lead the Jenolan Conservation and Maintenance team, collaborating closely with broader DCCEEW departments and key stakeholders. Working with a high degree of independence, the position applies robust project management principles to direct daily priorities and workloads for both individual tasks and supervised staff. The successful candidate is responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, and accuracy of all departmental advice while consistently delivering assigned projects on time and within or below budget.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in asset management, including use of asset systems and managing staff or contractors delivering maintenance and construction.
  • Proven knowledge and application of building codes, safe work practices, and risk management in infrastructure maintenance and construction.
  • Strong experience managing complex construction contracts and projects, including administration, monitoring, and financial reporting.
  • Sound understanding of capital project financial reporting and risk management principles related to assets and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation covering protected areas, contract management, Work Health and Safety, construction standards, and environmental planning.
  • Current Australian driver’s licence.

The Jenolan Caves Reserve Trust is a division within Environment, Industry and Science, responsible for the care, control & management of the Jenolan Visitor Use and Services Zone. This is regarded as being both environmentally and culturally significant. The Visitor Use and Services Zone includes, but is not restricted to, Caves House, retail areas, kitchen areas, front office, staff and guest accommodation, walking tracks, maintenance areas and the Caves System.

DCCEEW also ensures sustainable management of water resources across the state, to support the environment, communities and industry.
