The Data Architect Lead is responsible for designing and maintaining the EPA’s data architecture to ensure that information assets are effectively structured, governed and optimised for use across the organisation. The role provides technical and strategic leadership in the design of data models, integration patterns, and storage solutions that enable efficient, secure and scalable data management and analytics.

Working within the Engagement Digital & Innovation Division, the Data Architect supports data strategy implementation, ensures alignment with NSW Government data and digital standards, and contributes to building the EPA’s capability as a data-driven, evidence-based regulator.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following key knowledge and experience:

  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise or solution-level data architectures in a complex organisation.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, integration patterns, and database technologies
  • Experience with modern cloud-based data platforms and tools
  • Familiarity with data pipelines processes, pipeline design and API integration
  • Detailed understanding of information security, privacy and regulatory compliance in a public sector context.
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders.

Also, it is an essential requirement of this role for the successful candidate to have relevant tertiary qualifications in solution architecture or an equivalent background in a related field, including essential certifications such as TOGAF or a recognised architecture certification

The Data and Analytic team are responsible for providing oversights and guidance over all Data and Analytics solutions across EPA.

The team is actively executing the data strategy to consolidate all EPA data assets to an enterprise grade cloud-based data platform. Equipping the EPA teams with state-of-the-art data processing capabilities and industry leading data management standards.

We offer the foundation platforms, governance framework, and analytical capabilities to transform raw data into business insights and actionable intelligence. We enable the organisation by promoting and upholding industry leading data practices in engineering, architecture, governance and analytics. We provide best practice guidance's and fact-based analytics.
