Quality Technician

Custom Manufacturing & Engineering, Inc. ("CME") is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Technician to support our aerospace, defense, and high-reliability manufacturing operations in Pinellas Park, Florida.

The Quality Technician performs receiving, in-process, and final inspections of manufactured and purchased products to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, workmanship standards, and CME's Quality Management System.

The successful candidate will have experience inspecting electrical/electronic assemblies, cables and wire harnesses, mechanical components, and/or electromechanical assemblies in a manufacturing environment. This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong documentation skills, and the ability to identify and clearly document nonconforming conditions.

• Perform receiving, first-piece, in-process, and final inspections of materials, components, subassemblies, and finished products.

• Inspect cable and wire harness assemblies, electrical/electronic assemblies, mechanical parts, and electromechanical equipment for compliance with applicable requirements.

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, bills of material (BOMs), work instructions, travelers, purchase orders, and customer requirements.

• Perform dimensional inspections using appropriate measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.

• Perform visual workmanship inspections of soldering, crimping, wire preparation, connector installation, routing, labeling, hardware installation, and assembly workmanship.

• Verify correct materials, components, part numbers, revisions, quantities, and configuration against production documentation.

• Verify required traceability, certifications, inspection records, and manufacturing documentation are complete and accurate.

• Identify, document, segregate, and assist with the disposition of nonconforming material and product.

• Generate and maintain inspection reports and other quality records.

• Assist with Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs), root-cause investigations, and corrective-action verification.

• Monitor production activities for compliance with established procedures and workmanship requirements.

• Verify that inspection and measurement equipment is within its required calibration period before use.

• Assist with maintaining calibration records and coordinating equipment calibration as required.

• Support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities and associated documentation when required.

• Assist Quality and Engineering personnel with customer, internal, and supplier quality issues.

• Participate in internal audits and customer or regulatory audits as required.

• Communicate quality issues promptly and professionally to Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and Management.

• Maintain organized and accurate quality records in accordance with CME procedures and contractual requirements.

• Support continuous improvement activities designed to reduce defects, rework, and manufacturing errors.

• Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED.

• Minimum 2 years of quality inspection or manufacturing experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, electronics, cable/wire harness, or another high-reliability manufacturing environment.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and manufacturing documentation.

• Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify workmanship and dimensional discrepancies.

• Ability to accurately document inspection results and nonconforming conditions.

• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with Production, Engineering, and Quality personnel.

Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

• AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems

• IPC/WHMA-A-620 requirements for cable and wire harness assemblies

• IPC-A-610 acceptability requirements for electronic assemblies

• J-STD-001 soldering requirements

• Aerospace or defense manufacturing

• First Article Inspection and AS9102

• Inspection of electrical and electronic assemblies

• Cable and wire harness inspection

• Solder and crimp inspection

• Mechanical and dimensional inspection

• Nonconformance reporting and corrective-action systems

• Calibration systems

• ESD-controlled manufacturing environments

• Government or defense-contract manufacturing documentation and traceability requirements

Current or previous IPC certification is a plus.

The position may require the employee to:

• Sit or stand for extended periods.

• Use inspection tools and equipment requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.

• Inspect small components, wiring, connectors, solder joints, and other detailed workmanship.

• Occasionally lift or move materials and assemblies weighing up to approximately 30 pounds.

• Work within production, inspection, and ESD-controlled areas as required.
