Summary Statement

This describes mechanic trade work at the intermediate level. Positions report to a technical superior. Assignments require a degree of evaluative thinking and are carried out in accordance with standard trade practices and general work instructions. This level diagnoses and trouble- shoots equipment malfunctions, makes determination of the problem and effectively repairs a variety of equipment, which may be unique to the agency.\r\nThis position must be available to work overtime as needed, and during storm events and other emergency events on short notice and in some cases no advance notice.\r\n\r\n

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.\r\n\r\n Performs preventive maintenance to include lubricating, cleaning, servicing, inspecting, and testing equipment. �\r\n \r\n Uses manual and computerized diagnostic equipment to evaluate, troubleshoot, make adjustments and diagnose equipment malfunctions or defects.�\r\n \r\n Repairs/replaces various parts and assemblies using mechanic power and hand tools. �\r\n \r\n Interprets schematics and blue prints to perform inspections, diagnosis, wiring procedures, and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, ignition, lighting, warning, and injection assemblies and component systems.�\r\n \r\n Operates computers, interprets parts, service, and automated equipment management system/ manuals to perform research, order parts, prepare records, and analyze equipment malfunctions.�\r\n \r\n Fabricates parts, performs gas/electric welding and makes body repairs.� �\r\n \r\n Responds to road service requests and/or assists with tow trucks/wreckers. �\r\n \r\n Conducts road test/operational checks for diagnostic purposes to determine equipment deficiencies and for post-maintenance tests.�\r\n \r\n Cleans and cares for tools, equipment and shop facilities.\r\n \r\n Follows safety rules and practices, and complies with Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA) standards in the performance of duties.\r\n\r\n

Job Requirements

Job Requirements for Equipment Mechanic II\r\nApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\r\n\r\n \r\n Six months' experience in diagnosing and repairing routine malfunctions on light duty vehicles such as pickup trucks, sedans or vans.\r\n \r\n \r\n Six months' experience in performing routine engine tune-up on light duty engines/ system components such as replacing spark plugs, engine timing, pollution control systems, and fuel systems.\r\n \r\n \r\n Knowledge of minor body repair.\r\n \r\n \r\n Knowledge of welding.\r\n \r\n \r\n Possession of a valid Driver’s License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). \r\n \r\n\r\n

As a condition of�hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).\r\n\r\nAs a condition of�hire you must possess a valid CDL Class A or B drivers license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving)�OR obtain one during the initial 90-day probationary period.\r\nCriminal background check:��A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. �The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.�\r\n\r\nPre-employment Drug Testing:� Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.\r\nApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DelDOT does not provide employment-based sponsorship.\r\n\r\nThis position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable�terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.� This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.\r\n\r\nAll new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.\r\n
