Responsibilities The Opportunity We are seeking an exceptional Senior Mechanical Engineer who understands the entire life cycle of a manufactured product: Concept ➝ Design ➝ Engineering Validation ➝ Fabrication ➝ Site Deployment This is not a theoretical or office-only role — you will own your work all the way through, collaborating daily with welders, fabricators, automation engineers, and project teams. You’ll lead product innovation, engineering analysis, manufacturability refinement, and quality compliance. Your ability to communicate with precision — both visually through drawings and verbally with the workshop — will be critical. Core Responsibilities Product Design & Commercialisation Develop detailed 3D models in SolidWorks with proper design intent, configurations, weldments, sheet-metal functions, and BOM structure Translate loose concepts, sketches, and operational requirements into engineered solutions ready for fabrication Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards, client specifications, structural safety requirements, and lifting guidelines Engineering Validation Perform FEA and engineering calculations to validate strength, stability, wind loading, fatigue, and lifting integrity Prepare high-standard written engineering justification reports with clear assumptions, safety factors, and risk considerations Participate in production prototypes and continuous improvement activities Manufacturing & Shop Drawings Produce complete and accurate fabrication drawing packs including: GA drawings Sheet-metal flat patterns Laser profiles and nesting requirements Weld symbols, tolerances, finishing specifications Assembly sequencing and service access considerations Interface with fabrication teams to problem-solve and refine manufacturability on the shop floor Material & Process Knowledge Strong understanding of: Steel fabrication (bending, forming, laser cutting, tolerance stack-up) Hot-dip galvanising and coating processes HDPE/LLDPE fabrication constraints, expansion movement, and jointing methods Select materials based on lifecycle, cost, application environment, and supply chain considerations Field & Client Support Provide engineering support during delivery and installation phases where required Assist internal sales and marketing teams with technical input, drawings, and product renders Prepare documentation to assist clients with operation, installation, and compliance Requirements Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable) You must meet all of the following criteria to be considered: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s advantageous) 3+ years industry experience in a mechanical design & fabrication environment 2+ years creating manufacturing drawings for steel structures or equipment 1+ year daily SolidWorks experience, including Sheet Metal & Weldments Proven competence in fabrication drawings, GD&T, and workshop communication Demonstrated ability to take a design from concept through production Excellent understanding of CAD modelling best practices and BOM structure Practical knowledge of production processes & assembly methods Strong analytical skills for structural, load, and lifting assessments Exceptional English written and verbal communication skills to ensure precise, safe, and effective collaboration with fabrication teams, suppliers, and clients (recommended wording selection applied) If your portfolio or communication style leaves room for interpretation — this role is not a fit. Highly Regarded Project experience in mining, water infrastructure, and industrial environments Electrical/automation system integration exposure Familiarity with ERP/PDM systems such as SolidWorks PDM, SAP, or similar Pathway to CPEng/RPEQ or interest in achieving chartership Work Arrangement Work Setup: On-site Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to 9:00 am flexi start time, should complete nine 9 hours work Why you should join our team!
