Performance Engineer:
Senior-level technical role focused on optimizing the performance, scalability, and reliability of large-scale database systems. This position combines deep Oracle Database expertise with advanced performance engineering, query optimization, troubleshooting, and capacity planning skills. The DBA Performance Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in diagnosing and resolving complex performance issues across mission-critical production environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead performance analysis, tuning, and optimization of Oracle Database environments (19c, 21c, Exadata, RAC, Data Guard)
- Coordinate and work with DISA resources as needed
- Perform deep-dive performance diagnostics using AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Trace, TKPROF, and Oracle Enterprise Manager
- Identify and resolve SQL performance bottlenecks, inefficient execution plans, and resource contention
- Work with development teams to optimize code and configurations
- Design and implement performance improvements for high-transaction OLTP and large-scale OLAP/Data Warehouse systems
- Conduct proactive performance monitoring, trending, and capacity planning
- Support major database upgrades, migrations, and consolidation efforts with a strong focus on performance
- Develop and maintain performance baselines, benchmarks, and tuning standards
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex performance incidents and production fires
- Collaborate with application teams, developers, and architects to optimize application-database interaction
- Create and present performance reports and recommendations to technical and executive leadership
- Ensure database performance compliance with DoD security and STIG requirements
