Job Duties

Administers acquisition of new easements through negotiation with property owners and their representatives, and through grant programs. Prepares and completes Deeds of Easement for approval by supervisor and Attorney General’s office and Board of Historic Resources (drafting includes review of property ownership, liens and encumbrances, archaeological, architectural, and historical elements, terms and conditions, photographs, etc.). Completes Baseline Documentation Reports for new easements. May assist in the preparation of Virginia Landmarks Register nominations for prospective easement properties.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of historic preservation best practices; evaluation and assessment of land surveys, historic maps and title work. Extensive knowledge of preservation laws, regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures, standards, etc. Ability to plan work and establish priorities; coordinate work with others; review projects and reports; develop preservation management solutions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiate effectively; provide technical assistance; and work effectively and exercise good judgement under stressful conditions.

Additional Considerations

The selected candidate will be required to complete a criminal background check to include credit and to file a State and Local Statement of Economic Interests as a condition of employment. Limited teleworking may be possible; approval is at the discretion of the supervisor only after the employee has successfully worked for the agency of a time no less than 6 months. A valid driver’s license is required.
