Medical Doctor - Emergency Medicine - Open to Caymanians and those without immigration restrictions only.

An Emergency Medicine Consultant is a medical doctor who specializes in the field of Emergency Medicine. An EMC at Doctors Hospital must be able to provide direct clinical services to patients presenting to the Outpatient Department or any other setting throughout the hospital.

Each EMC must possess current ACLS, ATLS and PALS certification. The primary responsibilities of such position include: adequately managing patients’ with, but not limited to the following clinical scenarios; airway management, including ventilation for adults and paediatric patients; cardiac life support, trauma care and paediatric resuscitation related technical skills; confirmed or suspected neurovascular injuries including stroke; skin, musculoskeletal or joint issues; joint Effusion or Dislocation, Simple or Complex wound care; eye and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) care including foreign body removal, epistaxis control, etc. Abdominal/Pelvic/Genitourinary/Gynaecologic issues
Said EMC must be able to perform at least the following procedures:
Peripheral vein Access / Central Vein (CVP) Access/Chest Tube Placement/Thoracocentesis/Pericardiocentesis
Abdominocentesis/Arthrocentesis/Lumbar Puncture/Peripheral Block/Regional Anaesthesia
Point-of-care ultrasound. Additionally, all EMC must be able to interpret electrocardiogram, X-rays, CT/MRI and any other radiological and lab investigations done and ensure timely referral to specialized clinicians when necessary. Make sure that all medical records are properly kept and maintained. Work simultaneously with staff when expected. Provide instructions for discharge and complete necessary medical records for patients. Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills and strong command of the English language.
An Emergency Medicine Consultant is an emergency medicine physician who is recognized by the Medical Director to have gained extensive clinical acumen, administrative experience and credentials and is capable of providing the following:
Staff Supervision and Training: To include the development of protocols for all aspects of Acute Care under the directorship of the Medical Director and other Clinical Directors.
Academic Duties: Active participation in Acute Care and hospital educational activities and the development of training and education in emergency care in the hospital including:
Implementing appropriate ESI Triage Tool, BLS and ACLS training, Code Blue Event/Planning, POCUS training
Implementing/Training: Acute Chest Pain/Stroke Protocols
General Duties must include: ensure that high quality of care and patient safety are maintained.
Collaborate with Clinical Directors of all departments to ensure appropriate referral and management protocols by specialized clinicians/surgeons. Create efficient on-call schedule (monthly) that provides adequate clinical coverage while promoting proper work-life balance. Work with Medical Director and OPD Clinical Director to provide the following:
Oversee the daily operations of designated Clinical Service. Provide Key Performance Indicators as metrics for growth/productivity. Implement clinical service training activities or programs to enhance department
Provide strategies to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes. Contribute ideas and solutions so as to meet clinical service revenue targets from inter-department relationship. Foster a high morale and healthy work culture throughout the clinical service by strong accountability, standards of ethics and personal integrity among all members of Clinical Service. Improve on relations between DH & other healthcare facilities on & off island.
