Ducks Unlimited (DU) seeks a Biologist I to support delivery of wetland and waterfowl habitat conservation projects on private and public lands on the Texas Coast. This position assists with planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of habitat restoration and enhancement projects while working closely with DU biologists, DU engineers, agency partners, and private landowners. The successful candidate will lead delivery of DU’s private land programs on the Texas Coast – Texas Prairie Wetlands Project and Texas Coastal Wetlands Program. With guidance from senior team members, the Biologist I plays an essential role in ensuring projects are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with funding and partnership requirements.

The position will be based out of the DU Field Office in Richmond, Texas with approximately 50% time in the field and 50% time in the office. A work truck will be provided for position duties. Most travel will be day trips with some trips requiring overnight accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of wetland management and enhancement projects on private lands along the Texas Coast.
  • Work with private landowners to help guide project development and implementation consistent with landowner goals and DU priorities.
  • Conduct and coordinate project activities, with assistance from DU field biologist, including site visits, surveys, design development, construction coordination, inspections, and project closeout.
  • Work with senior biologists, engineering staff, and project coordinators to maintain project schedules and documentation and track budgets.
  • Assist with developing grant proposals and reports.
  • Participate in public land project activities that support regional habitat objectives for waterfowl and other wetland‑dependent wildlife.
  • Assist with public land conservation projects by supporting senior biologists with grant proposals, project coordination, permitting tasks, and reporting activities.
  • Works with DU field biologists to complete annual monitoring of DU conservation easements in Texas and Oklahoma.
  • Complete monitoring reports and occasionally assist the DU National Lands Team with easement record inquiries.
  • Coordinate regularly with DU staff, agency partners (e.g., USFWS, TPWD, NRCS), private landowners, and project consultants.
  • Assist with partner meetings, site visits, and outreach efforts as needed.
  • Represent DU in a professional manner when interacting with landowners, partners, and the public.
  • Required: Must hold a valid driver’s license.
  • General knowledge of wetland ecology, waterfowl habitat management, or conservation biology.
  • Knowledge of the Texas Coast and local agricultural practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to assist with multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to perform regular fieldwork in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, natural resources, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • One to two years of relevant experience supporting conservation, habitat restoration, or natural resource projects (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
